The dragon’s den
Aleyah's POV
————————-
I'm taking orders from this really old dude who could have at least showered before coming in the door! "Whiskey neat," he says in a nonchalant voice. "Alright, sir," I pour two ounces of whiskey in a glass with rocks, handing it over. "Here you are." I'm trying so hard not to let him see the disgust on my face. I need to be professional for this to work.
"Thank you so much, Bella Ragazza!" (Beautiful girl)
Oh, now I can't hide my disgust. He sees it but ignores it. I know some Italian, but not much thanks to all the Italian mafia books out there!
Time flies by as I make drinks, endless amounts of drinks. I really hope I'll see him soon, and all of this will be worth it. And just as I think my luck has run out, there he is.
Now all I have to do is get his attention and make him come with me somehow. Ah, perfect, he is going out for a cigarette. I need to do this now before I lose him again.
"I'm going on my break now," I tell the other bartender.
Now that I have entered the Dragon's Den with no longer the protection of my alias as a bartender, I feel screwed already, like I have made the biggest mistake of my life just by being here. I just hope the Dragon himself isn't here," I mutter to myself.
Underneath my black vest is a small dagger. It pokes my left breast if I lift it the wrong way, but it was the only thing I could bring. I knew I was going to be searched. It is small enough to not be detected but big enough to kill with.
As I walk past all the stripper poles and men looking like lions seeing their next meals, I find myself outside in a garden that is lit up with a fountain of a dragon killing an armored man. Suits the Dragon's Den perfectly. I joke to myself with a tiny laugh.
"And what are you laughing about, bambolina?" (baby doll)
BINGO!
"Oh! I'm sorry, I was just thinking about something funny my coworker said." I hope that was enough to get his attention.
"Ah, you work here, as a bartender I presume?"
"Yes, just as a bartender." He looks a bit disappointed. I don't think he will be for long, but then again, he will be a dead man soon, though.
"What a shame! Speravo davvero di fotterti quel culo." He says with a smirk on his face.
"I'm sorry; I don't understand Italian, just some words."
"Ah, of course, my bad. And where are my manners? The name is Leonardo Bianchi." He reaches for my hand, and I hesitantly take it. He kisses the back of it. GROSS! He isn't ugly; he is, in fact, handsome, but he does gross things. That's the reason I was hired to do this. I give him a smirk. "I'm Aryah Smart, nice to meet you."
"A beautiful name for a beautiful girl. So, how long is your break?"
"About 30 more minutes."
"I would like to take you to a room and spend some time with you in private, if that's okay with you."
I'm trying so hard not to show him how excited that makes me. I don't know if that is such a good idea. I mean, I am working, but not like that."
"Oh no! Don't take it the wrong way, miss Smart. We can do whatever pleases you, and I know the man in charge personally, so if he asks, it won't be a problem." He says it proudly, but it kind of scares me that he knows him—the man I really want to avoid. The Dragon is the most feared man. I'm kind of stupid for taking this job, but I need the money, so what can a girl do?
"You know what? Since you say it that way, let's go!"
He takes my hand as he leads me through the room of people. I want to keep a low profile, so I need to ask him if he is here or not. But then, just as that thought came to mind, I see him. He is talking to the bartender behind the bar. The bartender is looking around, shaking his head. But then he stops shaking his head while looking at me and points. f**k!
The Dragon has his eyes locked on me, and I want to run! Run away and forget all about this job.
The man stops while holding my hand as I slow down a bit and asks in a curious low voice, "Is everything okay?"
I think my break is over, so I have to get back. He looks now more dissatisfied than ever.
Puttana (w***e), you are teasing me, aren't you? I look at him a bit shocked, but this doesn't surprise me. I knew his intentions. He was going to f**k me no matter what I said. He is a r****t, after all.
Fuck, what am I going to do now? This job just became more complicated. Now the Dragon has seen my face with him. I can't kill Leonardo here.
Leonardo keeps his hand around my wrist so hard that the blood rushes out of my hand. He tries to drag me to the elevator, but I lock my heels on the ground. I almost tumble over. I scream, "No! Stop!"
He halts and turns around. "Fottuta puttana! Farò a modo mio con te, rendilo facile per te o non sarò gentile." (f*****g w***e! I'll have my way with you. Make it easy for you, or I won't be gentle.)
Screaming in my ear, "I have no idea what you just said, but I don't like your tone."
"Neither do I," a voice comes from behind me.
The look on Leonardo's face is priceless. It looks like he's seeing a ghost. No, wait, a dragon, which is much worse if you ask me. I believe my face is the same way, scared shitless. We both freeze on the spot.
"Dove hai intenzione di violentare questa ragazza, a casa mia?" (Where are you going to r**e this girl, in my house?)
"La cagna voleva unirsi a me e poi ha cambiato idea, quindi non lo definirei stupro!" (The b***h wanted to join me and then changed her mind, so I wouldn't call it rape.)
They talk like I don't even exist. I'm still not turning around to look at the Dragon. I have no idea what they are talking about. I only look at Leonardo, who looks scared and annoyed at the same time. Then I hear the man behind me. "Tsk."
The sound makes Leonardo freeze.
The Dragon yells, "Non tollero stronzate del genere." (I don't tolerate s**t like this.) Great, now we have an audience.
"Mi dispiace così tanto, capo. Non accadrà più!" (I'm so sorry, boss. It won't happen again.)
"Capo!" It's a word I have read before, so I know what that means. I was right. It is the Dragon himself.
He speaks in English this time, and it surprises me. I was expecting them to continue in Italian. "Too late for that, you maiale disgustoso!" (Disgusting pig.) Well, almost a full sentence in English.
Leonardo shifts like he is about to turn and run, but a loud BANG fills the air, and Leonardo's body falls to the ground with a thud.
"So, the job wasn't that hard, I guess?" I say. "It ain't over yet, gurl. You are still in the Dragon's den."
Shit, f**k! You are right. Play scared, play scared!
I feel a hand rest on my shoulder, and my body tenses. So far, no need to play scared yet, BECAUSE I'm f*****g scared.
"Are you okay, miss?" The Dragon speaks to me. I can't turn around and face him just yet. "I think I'm fine," my voice comes out more shaky than I thought it would be.
"Look at me while you speak, ragazza." (Girl) f**k!
I turn my body slowly, so slowly it makes me want to snatch his gun and kill myself. This is second-hand embarrassment. I put a little extra spice in my steps and look wide-eyed at him, just to sell my act a little more. I repeat my words, "I think I'm fine."
"Good girl" he says and pets my shoulder, which makes my body shiver. How can this man be so dangerous and so painfully handsome!?
"You can take the rest of the night off, and if you need it, the rest of the week too," he speaks softly, which makes me know I sold my act really well. I'm proud of myself. "Thank you," I let my voice be shaky this time.
I'm still standing in the same spot, still frozen. I can't move a muscle, watching him. He narrows his eyes, and that makes me flinch. Finally, I'm able to move. Stepping around Leonardo's body, I walk to the exit.
"Oh, and miss, I din't catch your name " he says, and I turn my head to look at him one last time.
'' Aryah Smart''
'' i hope too see you soon miss Smart''
Hopefully, the f**k not! i think for myself as straighten my self up and continue to leave
"Ora qualcuno pulisca questo pasticcio!" (Now somebody clean this mess up!) Again, not a clue what he said, but it made me pick up the pace for the door.
Freedom from the Dragon's den at last!
