Chapter Sixteen
Happy Birthday Angie
I threw myself into working in the labs, and grabbed every hour of overtime Len wanted me to work. They refused to take any rent from me while I stayed with them, and so I helped out by doing free babysitting, helping Len in the garden and keeping both of their cars spotlessly clean.
There were a dozen or so calls from Christine, which I allowed to go to voicemail. There were also two calls with Laura’s father. The first was an angry tirade; and I just cleared the call when he wouldn’t let me talk. The second was a calmer conversation with him, where he thanked me for not pressing charges, but basically told me he never wanted me to see his daughter again…I suspected he’d had a serious talk with Laura in between the two calls.
