Sarah's point of view
After I turned him down, I exited the lecture hall feeling a mix of confusion and shock. I couldn't fathom why someone like him would ask me out, rather than simply demanding that I become his girlfriend. I mean, I barely knew the guy. It was mind-boggling how he could propose such a thing right off the bat.
So, I mustered a simple "no" in response, not wanting to delve into any kind of relationship at the moment. When he mentioned his name, I was taken aback. It surprised me that a guy like him would even consider asking me out. However, I couldn't ignore the warnings Kenna had given me about him being a notorious playboy. I had no intention of getting involved with someone like that.
I made my way to the cafeteria, where I spotted Kenna sitting and enjoying her juice. I approached her table, and her eyes lit up as she saw me. She eagerly waved at me, and I waved back before joining her.
"Hey, I've been waiting for you. Did you see the video?" she asked me, clearly excited about something.
"What video?" I replied, pretending to be clueless.
"Don't play dumb with me. You're going to be famous, babe," she said, beaming with a wide smile.
"Okay, okay. Can you please tell me what the heck you're talking about? Don't keep me in suspense," I responded, slightly irritated by her half-revealed statements.
"Just watch this video. It's going viral on the school's student site," she said, handing me her phone and urging me to watch the video.
I was taken aback as I watched the video. It was the footage of me rejecting Garry. What the heck? It had gone viral. Suddenly, it all made sense why people had been giving me strange looks when I walked into the cafeteria.
"Why did you reject him, Sarah? He's incredibly handsome, and girls would kill for a chance to date him. Plus, he never asks anyone out," Kenna exclaimed, bewildered by my decision.
"You know, Kenna, I'm just not ready for a relationship at the moment. And definitely not with a notorious playboy like him. I know he's a billionaire and good-looking, but that's not how I judge a person. I care more about their character and behavior," I explained, heading into detail about my reasoning. "I want someone who loves me unconditionally, cherishes me for who I am. It doesn't matter how much money he has or how he looks. I need someone who will protect me with everything they have. Maybe I'm asking for a lot, but that's what I truly want, and I won't settle for anything less in this matter."
I poured out my thoughts to Kenna, fully aware that I might be expecting too much, but afraid of getting hurt in the process. After all, besides my grandmother, there was no one else who truly loved me. And my sister, who loved me more than anything, had disappeared, leaving me longing for her presence. Sometimes, I even wished I could be in her place, sparing her from all the pain she had endured or might still be going through.
Just then, Chris approached and took a seat beside me, clearly concerned about what had transpired.
"Hey, Sarah, what was that all about?" he inquired, his worry evident. Sometimes, he could be overly protective.
"I don't know why he proposed to you, but please stay away from him. He's not good for you," Chris warned, his concern palpable.
"You can't control who I choose to be with, Chris. And if I ever need money, I can always ask you. But please, don't worry about me agreeing to him. Trust me, money doesn't matter to me, so let's not bring that into the equation," I reassured him, noticing a smile starting to form on his face.
"But why anyone but not me?" I asked him, curious about his reasoning.
"Just not you," he replied, providing no further explanation before leaving the cafeteria.
After classes were finally over for the day, I began making my way home. However, an unsettling feeling crept over me, as if someone was following me. I had been experiencing this sensation for the past few days, and when I turned around, there was no one in sight. Increasing my pace, I practically started running, but suddenly, a hand gripped my elbow from behind, causing me to jolt in fear. I turned around only to find Garry standing there.
"It's you! What are you doing here? Why were you stalking me?" I demanded, my voice laced with a mixture of surprise and annoyance.
"Who, me? Stalking? Why would I do that? I've been calling your name for the past fifteen minutes, and you didn't even bother to turn around. Where were you lost? Why were you running?" he responded, a sarcastic smile forming on his face. I swiftly freed my elbow from his grip.
"It's none of your business, and yes, why were you following me?" I retorted rudely, hoping that would discourage him from coming near me again.
"Why did you reject me? Actually, you don't have to answer that. I understand why. I apologize for being rude and not respecting your decision. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me," he said, surprising me with his sincerity. After all, he was known for not caring about girls' feelings. First, a proposal, and now an apology. And let's not forget how sweetly he was speaking to me.
"I forgive you," I replied almost involuntarily, my words slipping out before I could fully process them.
"Thanks a lot," he responded, a wide smile spreading across his face, accentuating his incredible handsomeness.
"Now that you've forgiven me, can we be friends? By the way, what's your name?" he asked, and I found it impossible to refuse him.
"Okay, I'm Sarah Grey," I replied, a small smile tugging at my lips.
I was about to continue on my way when he stopped me.
"I'm throwing a party tomorrow night—it's my birthday. You have to come. Consider it an invitation from a friend," he insisted, his gaze fixed on me with a playful intensity.
"But—" I began, intending to decline once more.
"No 'buts,' Sarah. Please come, and feel free to bring your friends along. Here's the invitation," he said, handing me a card before bidding me farewell and leaving me standing there. "Another exhausting day," I murmured to myself, sighing as I headed home, aware that tomorrow was bound to be a long day.
