A few hours later, I’m finishing scrubbing the last of the evidence from the altercation away when there’s a knock on the door. Dom opens it to find Keahi’s nervous face on the other side. “I’m sorry, Dom, but this woman was insistent,” he says, motioning behind him. Then, he lowers his voice to a conspiratorial level and whispers, “She’s terrifying!” in a voice that I can still clearly hear from across the room.
Dom looks past his beta’s shoulder and pales slightly, turning to give me a look that may be part warning, or maybe an unspoken question, before turning back to Keahi with a small smile. “That’s ok, Keahi. Won’t you come in?” he extends a polite greeting to the newcomer I hadn’t yet seen, as Keahi quickly scuttles back to the elevator.
