CHAPTER 35 My parents’ house appeared to have shrunk. Apart from my immediate family, Mark, a nimbly running Miranda, Helen and an extra dog were over to celebrate Christmas. My family had heard of Chris but hadn’t met him yet, and we had decided that Christmas was not the right time, so Chris was spending Christmas with his own family. In addition to all the other excitement, Gwen’s second child was due any day, and everybody tiptoed around her as if a sudden movement could start the labour. Christmas passed quietly.
