The Dual-Faced Prophecy
The Duchy of Kabel.
At the age of thirty-five, Queen Juliet finally gave birth to her first prince, Yize.
King Robert Kabel was overjoyed. On the day of Prince Yize's first month, a grand banquet was held in the palace.
Robert spent a fortune inviting the five most renowned seers from nearby countries to bless Yize.
On that day, nobles and ministers flooded the palace with gifts and compliments, making the entire palace lively and festive.
After the feast, the king dismissed everyone but the five seers.
Prophecy rituals are incredibly solemn and must not be disturbed. The fewer people who know about the prince's prophecy, the better.
Hence, only the king, the queen, their two personal guards, and the young prince Yize remained in the room.
The seers entered one by one to perform the prophecy blessings.
The first seer, an elderly woman, closed her eyes, placed her palm gently on Yize's heart, and declared loudly, "Oh ancient gods of prophecy, grant me the power of foresight. I foresee this boy, Yize, will grow to be strong and brave, at the cost of being very picky about food!"
A seer must attach an equal cost to their prophecy; otherwise, they will face certain backlash.
The king and queen nodded with smiles. Trading a picky eating habit for strength and bravery was indeed worthwhile.
As royalty, picky eating was no problem at all.
The second seer, an even older woman, said, "Oh ancient gods of prophecy, grant me the power of foresight. I foresee this boy, Yize, will grow up to be handsome and charming, at the cost of losing his parents' golden hair, and instead having black hair."
The king and queen smiled again, pleased with the second blessing. Golden hair was nice, but any color would look good on a handsome face.
The third seer, a dashing middle-aged man, said, "Oh ancient gods of prophecy, grant me the power of foresight. I foresee this boy, Yize, will grow up smart and clever, at the cost of stuttering and having reddened ears when he lies."
The royal couple laughed even more.
"This way, little Yize won't be able to lie to us in the future," the queen laughed, covering her mouth.
The first three prophecies were clearly more blessings than costs, showing that the seers were very responsible after receiving their hundred gold coins.
Of course, the three seers would be weak for a while after returning, as the uneven costs would cause some backlash.
The fourth seer, also a middle-aged man with tribal face paint, looked unfriendly.
He touched Yize's beating heart and said coldly, "Oh ancient gods of prophecy, grant me the power of foresight. I foresee this boy, Yize, will become the most talented magician in the world, at the cost of..."
The king and queen's eyes widened in shock because...
This blessing prophecy was simply too great.
It must be known that a magician could only be found among millions. Even a low-level magician with average talent was a sought-after guest in every country.
The most talented magician in the world was terrifying!
But this prophecy couldn't bring the king and queen any joy, as the cost for little Yize would surely be dire!
"Stop talking!" King Robert roared angrily.
But it was too late.
The seer grinned and continued, "...at the cost of dying on his eighteenth birthday! Hahaha!"
Queen Juliet felt dizzy and weak, fortunately supported by Robert. He yelled at the two guards, "Detain him immediately!"
The king was furious; this seer had cast such a venomous prophecy on his only son!
"Your Majesty, isn't it a good thing that I made your son the most talented magician in the world?" the seer sneered, then laughed, "Unfortunately, geniuses always die young. Hahaha!"
Juliet had fainted. Robert, trembling with rage, demanded, "Why did you do this?!"
"Ha, dear king, you probably don't know that when your army attacked the city of Kerr, my wife died at the hands of your soldiers. I'm just avenging her."
"Kerr city belongs to the Duchy of Kabel. War inevitably causes casualties. I'm sorry for your wife's death. You could have asked me for compensation. Why take it out on my son?!"
"I just want you to taste the pain of losing a loved one too!"
"Hang him immediately!" Robert, eyes red with anger, commanded.
"Yes, sire!"
The fifth seer, a young woman, hesitated to enter after seeing the previous seer dragged away. But the king ordered her in immediately.
Robert explained what had happened and begged her to change the prophecy.
"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, I cannot alter or override a prophecy that has already taken effect."
The light in Robert's eyes dimmed.
The seeress quickly added, "However, I can add a post-condition prophecy with harsh terms. If the condition is met, it can alter the prince's fate."
"Please, do it quickly!" Robert's hope reignited.
The seeress placed her hand on Yize's heart and murmured, "Oh ancient gods of prophecy, please pause the previous prophecy on this boy. I add a new post-condition prophecy: If he can find a girl who truly loves him at the age of seventeen and she gives him her first kiss willingly after he dies, he shall immediately revive!"
True love is rare. Finding it within a year, and from someone who hasn't given her first kiss, was indeed harsh.
But even a slim chance is better than none.
— Seventeen years later...
Yize had grown into a tall and handsome prince with chiseled features, deep, intelligent eyes, and unique black curls.
Countless girls in the kingdom, having seen him or his portrait, were enamored.
But they were only infatuated with his looks and status, not true love.
Yesterday was Yize's seventeenth birthday, and his parents told him about the prophecy.
Yize thought it was like the story of Sleeping Beauty.
He quickly packed his bags and prepared to leave for the Norman Empire.
He couldn't place his hope of survival on elusive love; he needed to seize control of his fate.
In fact, Yize was a soul transmigrator from Earth, regaining his past life's memories at ten. He then realized he was in a world intertwined with various fairy tales.
This world resembled medieval European feudal society, with a rigid class system.
It had the story of the Ugly Duckling, wizards, magicians, and legendary dragon nests...
He was fortunate to be a prince enjoying wealth and privilege.
He didn't want his good days to end prematurely.
Why head to the distant Norman Empire?
Because Yize knew the Norman Empire had a sorceress queen, Snow White's stepmother, who possessed a magic mirror that knew everything.
It must know a way to break the negative prophecy.
