CHAPTER-4
It's my second day in this school and I am waiting for Mrs. Lisa, my class teacher to come and start the class. Irish, Bella, and Zebal are chatting with some other students, rather than joining their conversation I thought to check out some notes which I still have to complete. I took out my book from the bag and was about to open it when I saw a boy entering the class. He looked different from us, his skin is pale white, eyes are hazel and his hair is brown. Anyone could easily fall for him. He entered the class and was going to take the empty seat beside me, when Steven pushed his shoulder back and spoke "dare come near my friend and I will kill you" he glared at Steven, sighed, and said "look! I am not at all interested to come near your friend. But as you can see this is the only seat which is available for now, hope your pea-sized brain gets it." Without even thinking once Steven punched that guy, and he held Steven's collar. My face went blank, I had no idea why Steven was behaving like this. But to stop their fight I decided to speak. I shouted "Steven come on! What's the need of fighting to him, he has a valid reason to sit here. And what's wrong if he sits beside me?" he turned towards me, his eyes were red with anger. "You don't know this rascal Wanetta. So, let me handle it." This is going beyond my limits! I never thought Steven could have such a bad side. Though we just met I don't like to make friends who have a bad temper and attitude. I huffed and said "enough! It's my problem if he is going to sit beside me and dare tell him something and I won't talk to you" Irish quietly moved to Steven and murmured something in his ear, and guess what? He just went back to his bench and sat down.
I usually don't interfere in other's matters but I don't know why I took the guy's side who is sitting beside me. Well if I am honest I feel bad for the way I talked to Steven but whatever it might be, he was wrong and I don't take the wrong person's side. I decided to make the first move to talk to my bench mate. I turned to head towards him "hey, I am Wanetta Lewis. I got my admission re-" he cut me off and said "it's none of my business. And neither I am interested in your personal life. So thank you!" what was that? His voice was hard and emotionless as if he doesn't care for the environment around him. His eyes showed that he might be hiding a deep secret inside him. Suddenly my attention was caught by Mrs. Lisa who just entered the class. I opened my books and started concentrating on the lesson she was teaching.
Finally! Time to relax, I put my belonging in my bag and started to move to the canteen with Irish and others. I asked her in curiosity "what did you say Steven in the morning?" she grinned and said "that you are mentally ill" I saw her with confusion, is she messing up with me? After entering the canteen I walked to Steven's table and sat beside him. "Hey, Steve!" I exclaimed. He pouted to me and "My name is Steven, not Steve"
"Uh come on! It's same, well are you mad at me?"
"Do you think that I have the right to do so?"
"Of course! After all, you are a good friend of mine!"
"Whatever"
"Alright-alright! Lemme buy you something to apologize"
"I ain't a kid Wanneta"
"Please" I pleaded to blink my eyes again and again.
"Stop getting on my nerves. And do whatever you want to" I ran towards the counter and ordered two chocolate pastries with a cherry on top. I carefully walked back to our table and placed them on the table. "What a mouth-watering view," I said l*****g my lower lip. Steven chuckled and we both attacked on our pastries. After having our yummy desserts, Steven went to attend a call and I decided to get back to the class. I one last time checked for Bella, Irish, and Zabel who decided to have lunch without us, as they were discussing some project. They left! I hurried on the way to my classroom not wanting to get any punishment for being late. On way, I bumped into someone. "YOU!?" I whisper yell at him. He just ignored me and my words, and left! He IS DRIVING ME CRAZY! I should have let Steven kill him. Being good to someone is of no use.
****
It was evening and we all were working on our science project. We got admitted to the school late so had to work harder on it. A random girl ran into the class and shouted "Guys! A group of five teen-agers got bitten by those vampires or creatures, whatever you say at 10.00 in the morning." Everyone's face went blank after hearing this. I turned back to Irish and Zebal and said "I thought they can't survive in daylight. And I don't think there is any chance to do that" I then heard a heart-warming voice from beside me "vampires cannot walk in daylight without being burned by the Sun as a consequence of their vampirism. However, they can gain protection from the Sun with 'lapis lazuli stones enchanted by a witch', so they can be able to walk in the sunlight without adverse effects." I turned to him and complimented "you know way too much about them" he again started focusing on his work and spoke, "having a bit knowledge about your surroundings is not bad."
"What's your name by the way?"
"It's none of your business"
"I know but having a bit knowledge about your surroundings is not bad, right?" He ignored me. ONCE AGAIN! I hate getting ignored. After half an hour I found Steven entering the class with some other boys. I waved my hand to him and the next second he was standing in front of me. "You heard about it?" I whispered to him. "Yes!" I sighed and stood up to have some alone time with him. We both walked to the classroom window and I asked him the first question that was killing me with curiosity. After all, I am a curious cat! "What's wrong with the guy sitting beside me?" He looked at him with disgust and said "that rascal!" I nodded and he continued "He is an annoying, crazy, and creepy living being. He is short-tempered and knocked me down in front of everyone when I just said to him that his mother is a b***h who cheated on his father" I saw him with a brow raised and asked "Just?" He looked down and mumbled, "it was the truth though!" I nodded my head in disgust and asked "what's his name by the way?" he looked away from me and said "Athan Smith" we ended our talk there and I headed back to my seat. Athan means... Eternal life, spiritual existence after the death of the body. I looked at him for a while and thought to myself 'his name shows his personality'. I then again started working on my project, and the rest of my day was peaceful and good.
