Chapter 24 - The Time Has Come

861 Words
“He can’t.” Maylyn frowns. “Oh, I’d hoped it was something different. But from what I’ve heard the King never has marked his mate.” “Do you agree with that thinking Tab?” “Honestly May, I don’t know. I want to say no. Its ever girls dream to be with her mate in that fashion. Reading each other minds and such. But then yes, he is the King. And being led by love only and the wrong head is no way to run a Kingdom.” “But what if there was a way to rule properly and mark the mate.” Tabitha shrugs her shoulders, “I don’t know May. I don’t know if I personally would be willing to take the risk.” “Is Trent going to mark you?” Tabitha shakes her head. She nods and looks away. “I can see you’re upset May. But why do you need to be marked to live happily? The previous King and Queen are still happy together. Is being with Gavin not enough? Does your love and need for him stop at being marked?” Looking at her again, “Of course not!” Looking to the sky again, “It’s just… a little disappointing, is all.” “I hear you May. It’s a different world we live in. Do you wish you didn’t live in it?” “No, I just wish-” All conversation stops when Maylyn smells him on the unnoticed breeze. Arms at her side, glancing down at sleeping Casper. “Maylyn, what’s wrong.” Tabitha asks. “It’s Tristan.” “What? He’s here?” Tabitha stands next to her. “May, we have Casper here. We have to get out of here.” “I know. Come on lets row back.” The girls drop, grab the paddles and row fast to the dock.  Maylyn picks Casper up, he begins to stir. They start to run off the dock when Tristan lands in front of them. Both girls falling to the ground under the ground shaking landing. “Call Randy May.” Fear in Tabitha’s voice. “I can’t, he doesn’t know we came out here.” Seemingly to totally forget Tristan is blocking their way off the dock, “Are you serious May? You didn’t tell him we were leaving the castle?” Glancing at her, holding Casper’s head and eyes back to Tristan with two new wolves in men form standing behind him. “Tabitha, I don’t think now is the time. Look at what’s in front of us.” “What the hell!” Obviously, she’s noticed Tristan and his escorts.  “Luna, who are those men.” Not even realizing Casper is now looking forward. She looks down at him. “They're bad people.” Feeling his fear when the men began to shift. Maylyn’s eyes to Tabitha, they both understand they are going to have to fight their way out of this. “Tabitha, how do we do this?” “I’ve never had-” “Do we shift or?” “What are their intentions May?” “To take me.” “Okay, um. Put Casper down. We need to defend him.” “Okay.” Maylyn puts Casper on his feet, “Okay, stay behind us.” “But Luna-” “No Casper, please listen to Luna.” “Birdy.” Tristan smiles, “We meet again. And you’ve already had a mutt.” She stands and faces him, “Do not speak to him that way. I know what you want. I don’t want to go with you.” “The time has come Birdy. The choice is no longer yours. I see you’re here with friends. Where is your mate? Has he left you alone… again?” “Leave these lands. You’re not welcomed here.” He smiles, “Take her. Kill the others.” “No!” She and Tabitha get in a defensive position. The two wolves run towards them. Tabitha yells, as the water pulls from lake, pushing them into the air and landing hard on the ground behind them. “Tabitha, I didn’t know you could do that.” “Come on May, lets go!” Scoping up Casper into her arms and running toward the castle! Smelling and hearing the wolves getting closer. “Maylyn run faster!” Tabitha yells. “Luna!” Casper yelps. Feeling pressure on her back, legs starting to give out as Casper falls from her arms. Her mind going wild seeing him flying in slow motion as a wolf comes into her peripheral vision with his snout open read to bite into Casper! “NO!” Watching the jaw lock around Casper’s stomach, while the wolf's shakes his head and tears Casper in two. Her knees hit the ground, followed by her chest and chin sliding across the ground. “Maylyn!” Hearing Tabitha calling out to her seeing her fighting a wolf, while trying to get back to her. But her eyes are only for Casper. She looks at his eyes still open, looking at her. Feeling her mind running in circles about to explode until she looks to her left and seeing Casper legs! Everything stops. Her eyes to Tabitha now on the ground being over-powered, hearing a faint sound of paws shaking the ground. “NOOOO!!!” Her voice like a clearing blast knocking the wolves attempting to kill Tabitha to the ground and unconscious. She feels her head getting dizzy when she feels him wrap his arms around him, “Oh Birdy. Are you ready?” Shaking her head slow, “Tab..itha…” “Birdy, why do you gotta make me do this?”  A moan from Maylyn’s mouth before her body lay still in Tristan’s arms. “Why women talk so much.” He looks at the wolves, “Collateral damage those dogs.” Smelling the warriors on the wind. Repositioning Maylyn over his shoulders, turning and jumping high into the air and out of site.
