While standing outside the intensive care unit a lot of things were going on Janu’s mind. She remembered her childhood at Kuniyil house. Happy carefree days of her life. The games she played with her siblings. Her sweet sister Ammu. Then she remembered the time she stayed at her ancestral home – Thekkeveedu. She remembered Cheeru muthachi. She was only a pre-teen at that time. When that incident which turned her life upside down, happened. Her train of thoughts were interrupted when the door of the ICU opened. The doctor’s face was grim. Janu’s breath hitched in her throat. Her eldest son Ravi got up from his seat.
“Doctor?”
The doctor sighed.
“His condition is a bit serious. We have done everything in our capacity. The rest is in god’s hands. Next 24 hours are very crucial. Then only we can say anything.”
He put a hand on Ravi’s shoulder.
“Let us pray for the best.”
Janu moved to the ICU door. She could see a body attached with lots of tubes and machines in there. A small sob escaped her lips. Every death of her loved ones came to her mind. The memories were tearing her heart apart.
‘Why God.....? WHY?!’
‘WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?!!’
