I couldn't believe what I was seeing in those cold eyes. Damon Blackwood, the alpha I had spent years pursuing, looked at me like I was nothing.
Pushing aside the immediate scandal threatening my reputation, I asked the question burning in my heart.
"Damon," I said, my voice cracking as I allowed my alpha female presence to diminish, showing rare vulnerability, "how do you really see me? If your alpha had no feelings for mine, why did you act like you still cared when I returned to Blackwood territory?"
Damon chuckled, the sound echoing coldly in the spacious office. His laughter was devoid of warmth, his alpha scent carefully controlled.
