Chapter 1 Could You Fall for Someone Else?
"Why?"
"The age gap seems a little... big."
"What's wrong with someone more mature?"
I swallowed. The "big" I had in mind had nothing to do with age. "I just don't think you'd be a good match."
"Quit changing the subject. Do you still want that new phone?"
"Yes!"
His arm tightened around my waist again. The man pulled me out from under the covers, his voice low and husky. "Your voice is already hoarse, and you still want more?"
I hung up at once. "No!"
He opened his eyes and smiled at me.
Clutching the edge of the blanket, I tried to compose myself. "We can pretend last night never happened."
"Which part?"
"All of it."
"Including the part where you asked if I could please not stop?"
I clapped a hand over his mouth. His gaze dropped to it, his smile deepening. The blanket slipped, and I hurriedly let go to wrap it around myself again. I couldn't cover myself and preserve my dignity at the same time.
"What's your name?" I asked quietly.
His smile stilled for a moment. "Adrian Cole."
"Mr. Cole, let's keep what happened last night between us. Especially the part involving my brother."
He leaned closer. I shrank back and bumped my head against the headboard. "You weren't this shy last night."
"That was last night!"
"Right. So the sun comes up, and suddenly you don't know me?"
I couldn't outtalk him, so I grabbed my dress and fled into the bathroom. The number I'd saved last night was still in my phone under "Red Shirt, Unreasonably Gorgeous." I closed my eyes, changed it to "A.C.," and forwarded it to Ethan.
'Sorry, Ethan. I slept with the person you like—and I still want you to buy me a phone.'
10 minutes later, I discovered a more serious problem. My underwear was soaked. There was no way I could wear it.
He went to shower. I opened his closet and had just picked up a pair of black boxer briefs when a voice came from behind me. "Planning to wear mine?"
My hand jerked, and they fell.
He bent to pick them up, then glanced at my waist. "Too big. They'll fall off when you stand."
"I don't need you to tell me that!"
He leaned over me to reach for something in the closet. I pressed myself against the door and barely dared to breathe. A pair of athletic shorts landed on my knees. "Put these on for now. How much longer were you planning to crouch there and let me watch?"
I had just taken them when the doorbell rang. My head snapped up.
Adrian looked at the door, then at me. "There's still time to hide in the closet."
