Chapter 2
At the Principal’s Office
“Do something, Mr Mars! Just look at my face—my make-up, my nails!”
Jackie fussed dramatically, inspecting herself as though she were the victim. The three of us could only stare at her in disbelief.
“Calm down, Miss Jackie,” Mr Mars said, trying to keep his composure.
“I will—after you get fired for doing nothing,” she snapped.
“N-not that…” he stammered.
“Then do something. Anything!”
Mr Mars hesitated, clearly under pressure.
“Umm… in this case, I—I think… all of you are suspended for a month…”
He paused.
“…with the exception of Miss Jackie.”
“What?!” we all exclaimed.
“And—ah—double salary if you make it two months.”
He blinked.
“Sorry, I mean… two months’ suspension.”
The three of us stood there, stunned.
“Dismiss"
At the School's parking lot
What’s going to happen when I tell Mum?
Slaps? Grounded for life?
Time-out? No, that’s too easy…
I groaned quietly to myself.
“I’m so sorry, Liana. She’s such a pain—I swear I could—” Sammy clenched her fists, fuming.
“Sammy!” Jayden cut in sharply.
“…Sorry,” she muttered.
A heavy silence fell between us.
Then—
“We’re all in trouble because of you.”
“Harsh, Jay.”
Jayden shrugged, completely unfazed.
“Linny, we could actually spend time together for once. You’ve been avoiding us for three years—ever since we got into Jassie’s High.”
I shifted uncomfortably. That wasn’t entirely fair… but it wasn’t completely wrong either.
“We’ll miss lessons,” I muttered. “Actual lessons, Jayden.”
“Oh, don’t start,” he groaned. “Stop being such a nerd.”
Sammy snorted. “That title belongs to Linny, not you.”
“At least she owns it,” I shot back quietly. “You just sound like you skipped basic manners.”
Jayden rolled his eyes, but didn’t argue.
“Not now, guys,” I said, already stepping away. “I’ll see you later.”
“Want a lift?” he called after me.
I didn’t even turn back.
“Not interested.”
Parking Lot
The air felt heavier than usual.
“Did she just walk off like that?” Sammy muttered.
Jayden shoved his hands into his pockets.
“You heard her.”
But there was something off in his voice this time—something almost like regret.
Jassie Mansion
“Where is he?” Mrs Jade snapped, her voice echoing through the grand hall.
“Ma’am… he’s stopped picking up his calls.”
A pause.
Cold. Tense.
“You know your son,” another voice added carefully. “He doesn’t come when he’s called.”
Before anyone could respond—
'BANG.'
The mansion doors flew open.
Silence fell instantly.
You’ve been wondering about these families, haven’t you?
They’re not just wealthy.
They’re the kind of power that people don’t question.
The kind that owns land… influence… people’s futures.
Make one mistake on property tied to their name—
—and everything you have could disappear overnight.
Mrs Jade.
Mr Franklin Jassie.
This isn’t just a family.
It’s a system
Currently, the Jassie family stood at the very top of the social hierarchy—untouchable, unquestioned.
At its head were Mr Franklin Jassie and Mrs Jade, with their three children:
Rayn. Carlos. Kertty.
By tradition, Rayn Jassie—the eldest—was the rightful heir.
But it was never that simple.
Carlos Jassie, the second son, was… different.
Mysterious.
The kind of person people whispered about but never confronted.
Piercing blue eyes. Striking red hair. A face that could earn fortunes without effort—
—and yet, wherever he went, something always seemed to go wrong.
Then there was Kertty.
The youngest. The only girl.
A golden child in every sense.
A beautiful young blonde with large hazel eyes and naturally long lashes—even at the age of ten. But it wasn’t just her appearance that made her stand out.
It was her warmth.
Her softness.
The kind of innocence that didn’t belong in a family like this.
“Brother Carlos!”
Kertty leapt from her seat, running straight towards him.
Carlos barely had time to react before she threw her arms around him.
He caught her effortlessly, lifting her into the air as she burst into laughter.
For a brief moment—
the tension in the room faded.
Carlos let out a quiet breath, something almost human slipping through his usual guarded expression.
“I’ve missed spoiling you, Pumpkin
