chapter 1
Boom! The sound of an explosion pierces through the room. The brief moments after the explosion, the room was filled with silence, peace, and a sensation of calmness. Just like when a tsunami is about to happen all the water disappears from the beach and goes back into the ocean. After those brief moments of silence, the next thing I could hear was the sound of the arrow hitting its target. This sound didn’t bring any peace, quite the opposite, it brought chaos. As I heard the arrow hitting its target, my feet and hands started to get cold. It wasn’t like anything I had felt before. It was nice but I started to feel a warmth going down from my chest into my stomach and my hands moved on their own to where the warmth was coming from. So beautiful, it was warm and bright, yet so warm and thick it wasn’t like anything I had ever had in my hands. Boom! The second explosion brought back everything I had tried to forget and live in the past. “OH MY GOD!” I heard that annoying b***h. She was my boss, the owner of the shop where I worked, the most annoying person ever. At that moment I wished for another arrow to strike me and kill me so I didn’t have to hear her high-pitched voice. And as I came back to my senses I realized, god damn I got hit by an arrow. At that moment, everything was chaos already. People were running in every direction like wild animals. The archers had shot me in the chest and my coworker in the throat. I was surprised by how calm I felt. I didn’t know if the was because I was about to die or because I didn’t really give a f**k if I did. I had been in many life and death situations before but never in any like this one. I was looking at him in the eyes and was surprised by how much blood was spraying out of the wound but he still seems to be alive, not for long though there is no way anyone can survive that. Almost half of the arrow was in his throat and all the blood coming out of the would make a bloody mess in the shop. And I thought, ha I feel bad for whoever is going to have to clean that up. I looked outside at the chaos and wondered why everybody was running in the open becoming easy targets. Were they so scared that they didn’t realize what they were doing was totally stupid? I managed to get myself out of the store. The arrow still in my chest, I knew that it was to take out it would only cause the bleeding to increase. My feet and hands were still cold but I didn’t feel the warmth dripping from my chest anymore. And just like the rest of the people who I believed were idiots for running chaotically in the hallways looking for an exit. I was doing the same thing more or less. My legs were moving on their own I honestly felt tired like I need to go to sleep. all the noise, the people screaming, the explosions, the maniac laughs, and sobs, seem insignificant to me. My eyes feel tired every time I blink feel like a nap, every time becoming more difficult to open them until I finally collapse. There in the middle of the street bleeding out as people ran over me not paying the slittiest attention to the person who was dying there. I guess they were too busy trying not to die themselves.
Is this how I died, from a single arrow wound in the chest in a boring job. After all the missions and battles I survived I was going to die from an arrow that probably wasn't even meant for me? After, I had decided to live a normal life with a mediocre job. A boring but peaceful life. I had chosen to renounce my killing instinct in order to honor those who had been my friends and died on a battlefield or worse died in a mission that wasn’t supposed to be known so they just disappeared. No one ever talked about them ever again. No recognition, not even a grave. What a waste, I thought. I opened my eyes again I saw documents of feet and legs passing next to me and even over me, occasionally kicking.
I looked to the right and I could still see the feet of my coworker. At least he had it easy. He died a few moments after being hit by the arrow. Lucky him, I closed my eyes again. I took in a deep breath and tried to enjoy it. It could be my calming down. I don’t know why but something inside of me didn’t want to scare this girl. Great, just what I need a crying girl. Perfect, way to go asshole, you made her cry. Please don’t cry. I don’t want that to be the last thing I do before I die, I thought. I grabbed her hand and pulled her in order to make her stand up. I hold her hand and I start running, dragging her behind me. More explosions and arrows were being shot from different directions and closed in. Everybody in front of me stopped running and stood in silence looking confused. And then I started screaming again and running in the opposite direction as the gunshots started again, this time right in front of me. I stopped and smiled. Finally, I get to let some of this bloodlust loose. With no weapons other than my free hand, since the other one was pulling the girl, who at that point wasn’t making any noise or any resistance whatsoever. I ran at the three men standing in front of me. I grabbed the one in the middle of the trough and dug my fingers deep into his flesh. Blood started to rush out. A quick approaching sword aimed at my neck was coming from the right, full of anger and confusion. These guys weren’t anything special. I could see it in the way they tried to defend themselves. I used the body of the guy I had just killed to block the attack. With that same hand that was used a moment ago to try and save someone, I was taking the life of another a moment later. Two of my fingers were in one of the eye sockets of the poor bastard. My fingers went deep enough into his skull that I’m sure I also stabbed his brain. I looked at the bodies and looked back with an evil smirk on my face. Looking down at the other one. He was pale and shaking. I knew he had come to accept that he was going to die just like his companions did. I grabbed the sword of one of the dead and, in a quick motion full of grace and elegance, his head was detached from his body. At that moment, I felt great, I felt alive, until two more arrows pierced me in the back. I collapsed to my knees. Looking back as I was going to completely collapse, I looked at the girl running towards me. She quickly grabbed both of my hands and started dragging me. My vision sounded, everything sounded so distant, and then I heard her voice so strong and clear. I’m Elenor, daughter of King Edmund. What is this little girl? What is the daughter of the king doing in this market? I had so many questions and thoughts going on in my head and before I was able to ask any questions, the sky got dark all of a sudden. Arrows? But why? The guards must know that the princess is here and a few people are still in the market. After a moment, I understood everything, the guards were trying to kill the princess.
