Brighteyes

It all started on my 18th birthday. Just after midnight, something started to burn in my head. I started screaming in pain. My mom quickly came to see what was going on, but the last thing I can remember is the bright light. It looked like an explosion. When I wake up I am no longer in my room. The room I'm now in, is completely white and has no windows. I quickly run to the door to see if it is open, but unfortunately it's locked. I can hear whispers outside the door. There is one thing from the whispers that I have been able to hear. The word brighteyes. What are brighteyes? /throwback to the day before my birthday/ Leeeeeeeee!!!! Wake up! Leeeeeeee GET UP!!! I am coming mom I scream back. My name is Ailee, but everyone calls me Lee. I live together with my mom in a small house in Brooklyn. My mom is the only family I have. I don't have aunts and uncles or any other relatives. I always wondered why, but whenever I bring it up my mom changes the subject. She doesn't even wants to tell me who my real dad is. She says he is not worth to be mentioned. I walk down the stairs and I see my mom in the kitchen. WAFFLES! That's my favorite breakfast I scream. What's the special occasion I ask my mom. Am I not allowed to spoil my favorite daughter she says. I am your only daughter remember I say with a grin on my face. I have a new present for you my baby girl she tells me. I open the present and see a very nice bracelet. Every year the day before my birthday I get a new bracelet and my mom throws away the old one.. I know it's weird, but she calls it a family tradition. I thank my mom and put it on. When my phone pings I see the time. Oh no, I am late for school. I quickly eat my waffles and rush back upstairs to get ready. Then I run out the door and yell a quick goodbye at my mom. I arrive at school just on time. Emily, my best friend comes running to me. She's always very enthusiastic and energetic. Sometimes a little too much. I really don't know where she gets the energy from. I am always tired, even on non school events. Sometimes I don't even know why Emily and I are friends, because we have literally nothing in common, but she has a good influence on me and helps me a lot with school. I am very bad at school. If Emily wasn't here, I would literally just sleep through the lessons. We are really the opposite of each other, but that's perhaps why we get along so well. So what are the plans for your birthday tomorrow she asks. Do you have the house for yourself again cause last years party was sick. Last year I invited my hole class and some other people I liked. I really love partying. Just dancing and screaming the lyrics of the songs with all my friends. I will ask my mom I tell Emily before we enter the school building. The day goes by fast and before I even know it school ends. After school I go home to ask my mom about the party. Hey mom I say. Hey darling, how was school she asks. The same as always, boring I answer. Can I throw a party in our house tomorrow night for my birthday I ask. I don't know darling. Last year it took a week for everything to be clean and in order again she tells me. Oh please mom I will make sure it will not be so bad as last year I beg. Fine, but only when no more pizza ends up at the ceiling she tells me seriously. I started to jump from happiness. Come on go get dressed we are going for a run my mom says. We run everyday and sometimes twice a day. I am starting to think that every time I am very excited, angry or sad my mom takes my out for a run. I think it's weird, but perhaps I am overthinking it. After our run I take a shower and inform every one for the party tomorrow night. My mom and I order Chinese and eat it up in front of the TV. Normally I fall asleep very early in the evening, cause I am always very tired form our running, but today it's different. My mom looks a little bit worried, but I don't think much about it. When it's 11 pm and I still didn't feel tired, my mom decides to make us some tea. So since when can you stay up so long my mom asks with a forced smile. She hands me over a cup of tea. I don't know. I am not feeling tired today I answer raising my shoulders. After drinking the tea I watch a some TV, but it was hard to keep my eyes open. So I said goodbye to my mom and went to my room.
