It had taken that entire summer back in 2005 for Terri to get through the army intake and selection process. She scored high enough that she was accepted into a service academy, where she underwent four years of military and academic training. During those four years, Michael saw her for a few weeks over the summers and a week over Christmas, and he always had to share her with her family.
After that she’d spent a year at a domestic military base before shipping out to Iraq. She did two tours in Iraq, and then off to Turkey, then Yemen. She had to put in five years of active duty to repay her four years at the service academy but had gone on to do five more, coming home on leave between missions and working at Fort Lewis in Washington.
