The look on the faces of all three individuals was comical. Never in their wildest dreams could they imagine that the girl who they treated like dirt beneath their shoes could return so valiantly. Not only was she beautiful and rich, she was also commanding a large number of fierce shifters who were loyal to her. “I am your mother, how dare you treat me this way?” her mother asked. Birdie’s face held a disgusted look. “You lost the right to call yourself my mother the day Barbie died. I already know why she died, by the way: your husband here was planning to sell her off. What kind of mother watches as the child she gave birth to so painfully is mistreated and sold? I am a mother myself and I would kill for my children. So I have tried to come up with excuses for you over the years and failed. You are just a monster, nothing more.” Birdie's face showed plain disappointment. Seeing that Birdie was not willing to listen to her mother, West decided to use his authority to worm his way out of the dangerous situation. “I am the Alpha of Spring View pack and I command you to let me go.” Pablo kicked him in the head immediately and spat on him. “You are no alpha.” He said. “The alpha was your friend who you stabbed in the back and killed. His biggest mistake was that he trusted you to have his back that day.” “Every capable shifter has the right to challenge the Alpha for leadership.” West defended his vile actions. “Challenge!!,” Birdie exclaimed. “You did not challenge my father; you hid your intentions and murdered him like the coward that you are. But today, I am going to give you the chance to defend yourself. “Birdie paused. She looked West in the eye and said, “I Birdie Samuel challenge you to a death match.” Her betas surrounded the entire space like a human wall in the shape of a circle. “If you try to run, you will be fair game to all of us, so I would advise you to take your chance in the challenge.” Pablo warned him. West’s cowardice was a well-known attribute of his. He would try to run at the first chance he got. In fact, Pablo was hoping he would run. Hesitantly, West changed into his wolf form and, without waiting for the match to begin, he lunged at Birdie, teeth out, going straight for the jugular. She slapped him away with her arm, and the on-lookers gasped. A few of the betas exchanged money. They had bet that West would try to take the coward’s way out by taking Birdie out immediately before she was ready. Sadly for him, her unnatural strength had doubled as she grew. She could easily crush him in her human form. Birdie shifted into her wolf and more gasps were heard. “What kind of wolf is that?” someone asked. “She is still a freak,” Someone else said. That person’s arm was broken by one of the twins, which quickly silenced the rest of the crowd. Birdie’s wolf was black, white and red, she was enormous in size and towered over West like an ant. West tried to run away but she flipped him with her paw and he fell down. When he got up, he tried to run again, desperate to escape, but Birdie played with him like a cat with a cornered mouse. Eventually, she got tired of playing and sliced his leg off with her claws. Howling in pain, West shifted into his human form and tried to crawl away from her. “How pathetic!” Birdie said. She had expected him to put up more of a fight than he had. This was not as satisfying as she thought it would be. She always thought the gaping hole in her heart would be closed if she saw West bleeding and pleading for his life like she imagined her father did. So many years of sealed anger had come down to this moment and all she felt was numb. “Finish him.” She commanded her betas. Pablo and the betas that had served her father went in eagerly like they were heading to a feast and ended West’s life. Her mother’s wail could be heard from miles away. Birdie remembered that this same woman had remained stoic when Barbie died. She did not shed even one tear back then for her dead daughter. Now that West was dead, there was nothing left for her here. The bodies of her sister and father had been exhumed and were currently on their way to Midrand city where she had had a mausoleum built for them. “What should we do with them?” Pablo pointed at Birdie's mother and brother. “Send them to the mental institute. Their actions over the years cannot be considered to be those of sane people.” She had bought a mental institute a year ago to prepare for their imprisonment, her version of life in hell for them. They would never leave that place unless it was in a coffin. “And what about your sister?” “Her too, make sure that you assign special nurses to them in the private wing.” For the last time, Birdie looked around the place that had once been her home and prison and she walked away. If possible, she would have preferred to burn it all to the ground. On second thought, she turned to one of the twins, “Set their house on fire.” She got into the car and was whisked off to the Essex hotel. The air which had previously been fresh and sweet was now bitter. She longed to embrace her children. She missed her father and her sister. Everything from the past was over; there was nothing left to hold on to anymore. When she got to her hotel room, she locked herself inside and cried for hours. All that anger, bitterness, misery and suffering was coming out of her in waves. “You can mourn them now, you have finally done them right.” Her wolf comforted her. “But I am alone now, I am all alone.” She whispered. “You have your children and adopted family, you have your pack. You are not alone anymore; family is not just the people who raised you or your blood relations. It’s the people who love you and you have plenty of those.” She cried until she exhausted herself and slept. It was hunger that woke her up at around eleven in the night. Rather than disturb her exhausted subordinates, she made her way out of her room and went to seek something to eat. As she walked, she passed by a room that was familiar to her. She could never forget it for as long as she lived. It was the room she had run out of after losing her virginity. Birdie paused at the door, and reached for the handle subconsciously. “What are you doing?” a dominant male voice questioned her. When she turned around, she smelled the most amazing scent in the world. Whatever it was, it made her knees go weak and she shivered. “Mate.” Her wolf whined. “It’s you.” The man said in what sounded like shock.
