“We are proposing a vote of no confidence in the current president be passed. Furthermore, criminal charges against him and his family should be pursued against him and his family for embezzlement of funds and corruption in the company.” Alyssa said the board members. She was Birdie’s mouthpiece. Whatever came out of her mouth had been approved and stamped by Birdie. “My father started this company. It’s not in your place to tell me how to run it.” Kyle’s father said. A few of the board members could be seen nodding their heads in agreement with his words. “My father started this company alongside you and yet you deemed it fit to support the people that stole my inheritance and kicked me out. Now, while you may have been its original owner, you have sold some shares over the years. Unfortunately for you, I have made it a point to collect as many as I could, which brought me to Fifty one. I own fifty-one percent of this resort. Birdie smirked. I can sell that fifty one to the biggest competitor of this resort. I hear LeMidrand is looking to expand. Maybe they should start with Spring View.” These words brought the shareholders who were opposed to Birdie back to reality. If she sold her shares to a ruthless investor, they would be squeezed out. “All in support of passing the vote of no confidence raise your hands.” All the shareholders raised their hands. “I guess this means our business here is done.” Birdie stood up and walked out of the meeting. Kyle was dragged out by her bodyguards and handed over to the police while Adella screamed. It was sweet music to Birdie’s ears. Like a boss, she walked out of the resort and entered the car. “Sell all my shares to Adriel Kang immediately. I don’t care how much you get for it, I just want to be done with this place.” “Yes Ma’am.” As the car left, she rolled the window down and took in the sight of the endless tall trees and mountains. She breathed in the fresh air that smelled like imaginary strawberries with a hint of cinnamon. “It smells fresh today.” She laughed. “Yes it does.” Alyssa agreed. It was her job to agree with whatever made her boss happy. “Let’s head to the Spring View mountain community. I have something to accomplish there as well.” “Yes Ma’am.” Half way through the journey, Birdie ordered the driver to stop the car and let herself out. Three unidentified cars showed up and a mean looking man with silver hair stepped out. He bowed his head and opened the door for her. Alyssa tried to follow but another man came and held her back. Confused and worried, she struggled against the hold. “It’s okay Alyssa. They work for me. You should head back to the hotel; I will meet you after I finish this particularly nasty piece of business.” The cars drove off, heading in the direction of the mountains. “Are you ready Pablo?” Birdie asked the man with silver hair. “I have waited for so long, my queen,” he replied. His eyes held anticipation and longing for something. “So have I,” she answered. The car ride was not long and soon, they arrived at a row of old buildings in a gated community. The place was so broken that the gate at the entrance was on its last legs. It was rusted and bending downwards. The environment itself stunk and smelled like s**t with a heavy mixture of piss. The air felt stuffy, as if it was filled with heat. Birdie longed to grab a mask and put it over her nose because she was breathing in nothing but hot air. With obvious disdain, Pablo asked, “How can anyone live in this damp? This place was not like when your father was alpha. It was paradise.” “And West ruined this paradise. “ Birdie sneered. She could not remember this place being this terrible when she was imprisoned there. Then again, as a prisoner in her final years, she was not allowed access to too many places in the pack for fear that she would escape. “Start.” Birdie ordered. Under Pablo’s direction, twenty men and women who looked like mercenaries poured out of the cars and silently made their way into the pack grounds. “They don’t even have any security,” Pablo mocked. “West has clearly lost his marbles.” “All the better for us,” one of the women said. “Nuh, I was hoping for a bit more resistance. I haven’t tasted blood in a long time.” Another woman who looked exactly like her answered. Birdie shook her head and chuckled. She had never seen twins more different from each other. The twins Roxanne and Riley were the daughters of one of her betas, Magnus, who used to be her father’s beta but now worked under her. Riley was the violent one of the two, Roxanne was more calm. However, her calmness was even more deadly than her sister’s violence in a fight. The further they went, the worse the actual situation on the ground was. The members of this pack were physically weak and spineless. They barely put up any resistance to the invasion. In fact, some of them welcomed the invaders with open arms because they longed to be freed from the cruelty of West’s reign. Birdie scoffed when she saw the grateful look in some of their eyes. She remembered them as the same people who shamed her and pointed fingers at her. “Calm down.” Her wolf said. “I am calm.” She shrugged. “We are one and the same, missy. I can tell that you would be tearing all their throats already if you could.” “They betrayed my father, watched my children starve and die. Watched me being hung from the ceiling and whipped in that basement daily for years and did nothing for me. Why do they deserve to be saved? “You are saving them not because you have forgiven them, but because you are the Queen. You were reborn to save the suffering wolves. You may not like them, but you have a duty to them.’ Birdie scoffed, “Duty! They made their beds; they can roll in their filth.” Her wolf sighed in frustration. “We have located him.” One of her warriors said. “Take me there.” She was led to the old house where West and her mother were staying. “Nothing about this place has changed,” she said slowly. Her tone indicated sadness and regret. Once upon a time, this house was occupied by her family before her father died. Those were good days. Her men dragged out a fighting West, her mother and step brother. They threw them before her. The three looked at her for a while and, finally, her mother gasped in shock. “Good to know that you can still recognize your long lost daughter my unloving mother.” She laughed mockingly.
