Chapter Three: Echoes of love Days turned into weeks, and Lucas and Cecilia's connection grew stronger through text messages and late-night phone calls. They discovered shared passions, dreams, and a genuine understanding, bridging the gap between their two realities. Lucas found himself falling for Cecilia's gentle nature and unwavering support. One sunny afternoon, Lucas invited Cecilia to join him on a picnic in a nearby park. They spread a cozy blanket on the soft grass, surrounded by the vibrant colors of blooming flowers. As they sat side by side, enjoying sandwiches and laughter, Lucas couldn't help but feel a mix of nervousness and excitement. He had a surprise planned for Cecilia, something that he hoped would solidify their connection. "You know, Cecilia," Lucas began, his voice filled with anticipation, "I've been thinking about us a lot lately, and I want to take our relationship to the next level." Cecilia's eyes sparkled with curiosity, her smile growing wider. "Really? What do you have in mind?" Taking a deep breath, Lucas reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it, revealing a beautiful silver necklace with an intricate amethyst pendant. "I want to give you this necklace as a symbol of my feelings for you. Will you be my girlfriend, Cecilia?" Lucas asked, his voice filled with hope. Tears welled up in Cecilia's eyes as she gazed at the necklace. She was deeply touched by Lucas's heartfelt gesture. Without hesitation, she nodded, her voice trembling with emotion. "Yes, Lucas. I would be honored to be your girlfriend." As Lucas clasped the necklace around Cecilia's neck, sealing their new commitment, a tingling sensation filled the air. Unbeknownst to them, a pair of piercing yellow eyes watched from a distance. As the couple enjoyed the rest of their picnic, the day took a sudden turn. Dark clouds rolled in, casting an ominous shadow over the park. Thunder rumbled in the distance, and gusts of wind swept through the trees. Lucas and Cecilia gathered their belongings quickly, their laughter turning into hurried footsteps. Just as they reached their car, rain started pouring down, drenching them within seconds. They jumped into the car, shivering from the sudden downpour. Lucas turned the key in the ignition, but the engine wouldn't start—an unexpected problem that left them stranded in the park. "I can't believe this is happening," Lucas muttered, frustration evident in his voice. "What are we going to do, Cecilia?" Cecilia looked at Lucas, her eyes filled with determination. "Don't worry, Lucas. We'll figure it out. Let's try to find some shelter until the rain subsides. Lucas nodded, grateful for Cecilia's reassurance. They left the car behind and dashed towards a small café situated just across the park. Rain poured relentlessly as they hurried through the streets, their clothes sticking to their skin. As they stepped inside the cozy café, the warmth enveloped them, providing solace from the cold rain. The smell of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, mingling with the soft murmurs of conversations. Lucas and Cecilia found an empty table near the window, their clothes still damp and their spirits slightly dampened by the unexpected turn of events. They ordered hot drinks and sat in comfortable silence, watching as the raindrops trickled down the windowpane. With a sigh, Lucas turned to Cecilia, curiosity shining in his eyes. "So, Cecilia, how did you manage to leave the house to meet me here? I remember you mentioning that your parents are quite strict." Cecilia shifted in her seat, a hint of guilt coloring her cheeks. "Well, Lucas, I may have told a little white lie to my parents. I said that I was going to the library to study." Lucas raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a mischievous smile. "Ah, so the library turns into a romantic picnic in the park with me. I'm flattered." Cecilia's eyes twinkled with a mixture of playfulness and embarrassment. "I couldn't resist the chance to spend time with you, Lucas. And besides, I promise I'll make it up to my parents somehow." They both continued to stare at each other, a glimmer of curiosity shining in their eyes. Cecilia couldn't control her excitement as she thanked Lucas for the beautiful necklace he had gifted her earlier that evening. "Lucas, this necklace is absolutely stunning! Thank you so much," she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine joy. "But I can't help but wonder, what do you do for a living? And tell me more about your family." Lucas took a deep breath, realizing he had to tread carefully to protect his true identity as a billionaire. Lucas looked into Cecilia's eyes, searching for any sign of disbelief or doubt. He had to fabricate a story about his past to protect his true identity as a billionaire. The words came out effortlessly, as he wove a tale of loss and hardship. "It was a tragic accident. I lost both my parents when I was just a teenager," Lucas said, his voice tinged with sadness. "After their untimely death, I was left with nothing but the weight of their debts and expenses." Lucas continued his charade, narrating a heart-wrenching story of loss and struggle. Cecilia listened attentively, her eyes filled with compassion and empathy. "I'm so sorry, Lucas," Cecilia said softly, her voice full of sympathy. "I had no idea you had been through so much. It must have been incredibly difficult for you." Lucas nodded, a pained expression crossing his face. "It was a challenging time, but it made me stronger. I'm grateful for the opportunities I have now, even if they are far from luxurious." Cecilia took his hand, squeezing it gently. "You are an incredible person, Lucas. Your resilience and kindness shine through despite the hardships you've faced." Lucas couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt. He didn't deserve her understanding and compassion, not when he was concealing the truth about his true identity. Yet, he couldn't bear to see her hurt or disappointed. When Cecilia heard this, she felt sorry for Lucas. She couldn't help but wonder how much he loved her to work in a restaurant, while still finding ways to buy her an expensive necklace. Determined to help him, she promised Lucas that a would talk to her father, who happened to be a billionaire, about getting him a job in his company. As the conversation continued, Lucas couldn't shake off the guilt that tugged at his conscience. He cared deeply for Cecilia and hated deceiving her. But he also knew that his true identity, the wealth and power he possessed, could potentially change their relationship. And that was a risk he wasn't ready to take. Suddenly, a notification popped up on Lucas's phone, momentarily distracting him from his thoughts. It was a message from his personal assistant, informing him of an urgent matter that required his immediate attention. Lucas's heart sank, realizing that he couldn't ignore it. "I'm sorry, Cecilia. I just received an important message. It seems I have to leave unexpectedly," Lucas said, his voice filled with regret. Cecilia looked disappointed but understanding. "That's alright, Lucas. Duty calls. Just promise me we'll see each other again soon." Lucas nodded earnestly, his mind already racing, plotting a way to reveal his true self. "Of course, Cecilia. I'll make it up to you, I promise As soon as Lucas left the restaurant, he hailed a taxi and rushed to his luxurious penthouse. What will be her reaction if Cecilia finds out his true identity?.
