At seven in the evening it was dark and very cold. There were no signs of life from the hospital, not counting the warm yellow windows in the far-off wooden huts. The laboratory building seemed completely deserted.
Suddenly the light came on in the empty glassed-in hallway. Martina saw two men in white coats get out of a lift. They were leading a third man by the elbow. Then they unlocked the entrance door, the man stepped onto the porch, and began going down the steps hesitantly.
“Felix!” she cried and ran to him.
The two men in white coats looked indifferently at the embracing couple.
