Prologue
The world paused. Trees that covered the base of The Drahl stood still. The quiet environment of the great mountains was broken only by the sound of wind brushing against the earth, but even that was softer than usual, as though the air itself held its breath. A lingering calm wrapped the forest, as if the time hesitated at something profound. Footsteps echoed against the stone path that leads to the heart of the mountain. Each step was measured and deliberate, so carefully placed as if the man were in no rush. Clad in all-black clothing, he moved like a shadow, effortlessly blending with the darkness of the twilight hours. His presence, though subtle, carried a weight far heavier from something a normal person would have. He slowed his pace as he approached a small clearing. He felt a slight breeze that stirred the leaves beside him, but it was fleeting, like the final breath of a dying storm. He stopped, his gaze fixed on something in his hand—an object of simple yet undeniable significance. He raised it slowly to eye level, the pendant glinting faintly in the dimming light. It was a necklace—an heirloom passed down through generations, its design long been forgotten by the rest of the world. The pendant itself was a polished gem, the color of the blood yet it reflected the last rays of the sun in tiny, scattered fragments. He looked at it with an ache in his heart, a soft pull toward something unseen, something distant—an invisible thread that seemed to tie him to an unspoken past. The weight of the pendant in his hand felt like carrying the world—so heavy in his chest. There was a promise within it, one he made long ago but had never fully understood until now. He had always known this moment would come, though the weight wasn’t something he prepared for. With a sigh, he lowered the pendant, closing his hand around it. His fingers clenched, as though the simple act of holding it could steady his racing thoughts. His lips parted, barely moving, but his voice was steady, carrying through the stillness of the forest. “Change is coming.” The words hung in the air, almost like a prayer, whispered into the ancient trees as though seeking their approval. There was no answer, only the soft rustling of leaves overhead and the subtle shifting of the forest around him. With one final look at the pendant, he turned and continued deeper into the forest, his pace quickening as the mountain began to rise steeply in front of him. Every step felt like a step closer to destiny, to something both exhilarating and terrifying. Moments later, the ruin emerged before him—silent and ancient, a forgotten relic of a time long past. The castle of a once-mighty kingdom, now only a shadow of its former glory. It stood at the mountain’s steep side, half-hidden by the overgrown forest and weathered by centuries of neglect. The broken columns jutted from the earth like the skeletal remains of a giant, remnants of a civilization that had fallen into ruin, their grandeur lost to the winds of time. The walls were crumbling, their once-majestic surfaces spoiled by cracks and holes. Stone that had once been smooth and pristine was now marked with erosion. Where there had once been windows, only empty spaces remained, staring out at the world with hollow eyes. He paused at the edge of the ruin, his eyes sweeping over the fallen kingdom. A faint, almost undetectable tremor passed through his chest, as if the sight of this place stirred something deep inside him. Something forgotten. He walked deeper into the ruins, his eyes scanning the ancient stones, searching for something. The winds picked up again, carrying the whisper of something lost to the ages. And in that whisper, he heard the voice of the past—a reminder that he had been chosen for something greater than the ruins of this place. The key to unlocking the future lay outside these forgotten walls, and he was the one who would find it. Now, it was time to begin again.
