Eat It, Husband
Steak plating falls to the ground, next to the knee of Thickerwood's bone. "Eat it, " orders Aunt Celeste Hart. "Off the floor. Men like you're used to it." Twenty relatives laugh. Declan looks at the meat again and to his hands. they're shaking. "Please, Aunt Celeste. I did nothing wrong." you're entering my father's house." She is nudging the plate toward him with her shoe. "The wrong one." "Eat, " she adds. Her son Marcus raises his cellphone for recording. "Smile, Declan. I am gonna send this to the whole family." Declan faces the ground. A chair shuffles the floor heavily. Isabelle Hart pulls him to his feet by his lapel. "Sit. Now." How to do a Machine translation "he'll have to learn his place, Isabelle", Celeste says. Isabelle takes the second plate and hurls it at the wall. It shatters. The room is silent. He is my husband. One more time you touch him and you don't walk out of this house tonight. "you're not allowed... you cannot throw me out, your grandpa... "My grandfather is not here." says Isabelle softly. "I am". She sits and grasps his sleeve below the table. He begins to pull back, red-faced. She squeezes him tighter. She clings to him through the meal, even as she uses her one free hand to cut her food. Don after the meal grab his sack of food green step... he right behind him up the necks Declan into the wall by a hand. "This is a good time for enjoying her." Marcus leans on his forearm at his neck. "One year. Then the contract is over and you have to travel to the street. "I know, " Declan wheeze. "I know too about your mother's hospital bill. Four hundred thousand. The bank is giving you a week." Marcus releases him and slaps his jawline. "Drop Isabelle off tonight, and I'll cover it all. No one has to know." Declan rubs his neck. He doesn't reply. That silence is worse than a yes. "Declan!" Isabelle skips two stairs at a time to get down. Marcus lingers and grins. "We were only having a discussion, cousin." "Go." She motions down the hall. Marcus exits, whistling. She moves Declan's face so he is facing to the light and notices a red mark on his neck. "What did he want?" "Nothing." " lie to me." "He wants me to go." His voice is breaking. "And I considered it. For one brief second I considered it, because I am afraid, Isabelle. I am afraid of your family. I cannot withstand your family." Isabelle cups his face between his hands. "So stay." Declan, on his back with his legs stretched out, makes his way to the floor in the bedroom. Isabelle quickly joins him with her shoulder pressed to his. "Sleep on the bed, " she demands. "I will occupy the sofa. Be sure that the door stays open." They said, "why?" "I want to hear you breathe." She turns abruptly. "The house is so quiet when you're not here." He watches her walk to the sofa. Twice she looks back at him as if she will vanish. At midnight, he's in the bathroom, no eye contact, holding onto the sink with a trembling hand. Seven days. Four hundred thousand dollars. Marcus's words bounce around in his head. He extracts a shard of broken dinner plate from his pocket. He had snagged it absentmindedly. It cuts into his palm. A solitary droplet of blood falls onto the tile and turns to gold. He opens a light book before his face. TIME OF ACCOUNTS. Debt noted: Celeste Hart, one insult. Must I by this means the more unresisted? He backs toward the door. "What, what is this?" Debt recorded: Marcus Hart, one threat. Collect? His respirations are rapid. He blinks his eyes and looks again. The words are still there. If I kind of say yes, is that going to become a trail? Bidding price will be taken. Collect? He imagines the bank. A week. His mother's name on the cheque. "Yeah, " he whispers. His phone buzzes on the counter. The Ledger flashes bright. "This is Grant National Bank, Mr. Whitaker. Your balance is nil. Paid in complete." The voice takes a breath. "We don't have a name for the remitter." Declan falls to the floor, laughing. He's crying and laughing all at once. His mother's bill is in the corner. He's free. Next there is a new line in the Ledger (in red color). 39. Debt to'Declan® Whitaker fromB2 Isabelle! Hart. Lie. Collect? His laughter subsides. Izzy had lied to him. About what? He remembers her hand on his sleeve, remembers the sound of her voice when she told him she need to hear him breathe. All the generous words mean something else now. The door handle turns. He had made sure it was locked. Still it opens. Isabelle is in the door of her bedroom in a nightdress. She looks to the phone in his hand and then to the wet face. "And I heard your voice at the bank." She enters and closes the door. "$400,000 couldn't break overnight. Who paid? I'm not sure. "Declan." She clutches his wrist tightly. "No more lies. Where did the money come from?" He direct his gaze to her hand resting lightly on his arm. Then he gaze goes down to the red line still illuminating behind her shoulder. "You're up first, " he says cooly. "Lie to me." Her face turns white and she releases his wrist. In the hall, a floorboard squeals. Someone has come into the bedroom. Professional custom writing service offers custom essays, term papers, and res earch papers.
