"Walk fast mumu." Praise half yelled at me. She was walking surprisingly fast for someone with fat stubby legs. She was in a hurry because the bell already rung and we were not in class and we had chemistry. Mr Odili had a made a mockery of her in his last class for coming late. He used her last test scores to shame her. “Look at this ignoramus" He said when he saw her sneaking into class. He had his head turned to the board and she had decided to run in without him noticing. “Sorry sir,I...." he cut her off “Shut up, why are you late?" "Sir, I...." he cut her off again. "Look at this " he said throwing her test sheet to the floor. Praise bent to pick it up, and immediately her face looked like a morge. "You couldn't even manage to get a three, look at you. fine for nothing" He said. "How can you not know a single Redox equation" He yelled at her. "Look at the rubbish you wrote, what nonsense" I heard Tami and her squad of rats snigger. "Go to your seats before I manhandle you" he said. Praise had cried her eyes out that day. Mr Odili had made her the center of mockery that day, I knew that aside praises test scores that he was treating her that way because she had turned down his s****l advances. Tami had made a joke about pretty girls with no brains and that did the trick. Praise immediately started crying, she had been putting up a brave face. Through out last week she had insisted I tutor her through chemical reactions especially Redox( Reduction and Oxidation). not to brag but I was pretty good at Chemistry. Today she was going to make sure Mr Odili didn't make a fool of her. "Who you dey call mumu?"I yelled at her. "You na" she said. “I thought you weren't afraid."I said. Praise turned and glared at me, I started laughing. five minutes ago praise had been bragging about how she was going to teach Mr Odili a lesson, she had done pretty well in her Chemistry enhancement test, so he wouldn't have anything to mock her with, she would answer any questions he fired at her and she was going to report him to the principal for s****l harassment. But now she was shaking like a life and running faster than her short legs could carry her. "Walk fast you Little Fucker" She yelled and I laughed. Praise was my best friend since my second year in senior secondary school. We have been class mates since SS1(Senior secondary class one) but we never talked. I talked to everyone else in my class except her. And if we ever did talk it was one of those “Hey",“How far" and “How you dey" conversations. Until one day, she and my seat mate Ese were talking about something and from all the eavesdropping I've been doing it was about her boyfriend. I never knew she and Ese were that close and Ese was a boy, why shouldn't she talk to me. So obnoxious little me chimed in and that's how all three of us became Besties. Ese had been my friend for a long time and to be honest I had a crush on him, I had decided to join in to that conversation that day not because I wanted to be close to Praise or because I cared but because I feared Ese liked her and was only trying to get her to dump Micah because he wanted to date her to I chimed in and came up with a counter offer, which she heeded to. Turns out they had been best friends for a long time.
