I reached into my purse, grabbing my phone with trembling hands. I quickly opened my camera app, aiming the camera at his shocked face.
I needed this on camera. In case anything happened to me, I would have him on camera.
My gaze drifted from his face, landing on the countless amount of pictures of myself, plastered against the walls.
Suddenly, all the air escaped my lungs. For a second, I could not breathe. Shock wrapped its cold hands tightly around my throat, holding fast.
"You're sick," I finally managed to utter, my breath coming in tiny gasps. "How long have you been watching me?!" I yelled into his face.
Fear twisted his face as he rested his gaze on me. "This isn't what you think it is," he explained, raising his hands in surrender.
"It's exactly what I think it is. You have my pictures all over your walls," I said, disbelief lacing my words.
"Hailey," he whispered, carefully stepping closer to me.
"Stay back!" I demanded in a warning tone. "I'm calling the police," I threatened, but I couldn't follow through on it; he snatched the phone out of my hand.
My blood ran cold as he threw it against the floor, stepping on the screen. My jaw dropped at the sight of my cracked cellphone screen.
"It's you, isn't it?" I asked, heart hammering against my ribs.
"I don't know what you're talking about. And I have no idea who put your pictures all over the wall," he argued.
"If it wasn't you, why did you break my phone? Why not let me call the police to investigate?" I questioned, a deep frown settling between my brows.
"You were going to hand me over to them. This isn't about an investigation," he cut me short, running a frustrated hand over his face.
"My name... You said my name earlier. How do you know my name? I never introduced myself to you," I suspiciously questioned.
"Everybody knows who you are. There are posters with your face on them all over campus." He said, trying hard to convince me.
My hand slipped inside my purse, searching for my taser. My hand stilled as it landed on the small weapon. I didn't pull it out yet. I would use it when he least expected it.
"Enough. This ends here. I'm handing you over to the police before you do this to other people." I said before making my way down the hallway.
His footsteps came fast behind. I started running down the hallway on instinct. His arm banded across my waist, pulling flush against his bare chest.
"Help! Somebody help! He's trying to kill me!" I yelled, my voice echoing down the empty hallway.
I was thrown into the janitor's room by the janitor himself. The door clicked shut behind him. He slowly stalked over to me. He wrapped his hand around my neck, squeezing tightly.
"I can't let you escape. I can't let you ruin my life. I'm sorry." He said while squeezing all the air from my lungs.
I pulled the taser out of my purse, slamming it into his side. The small self-defense tool came to life, and the janitor seized, his hand freezing on my throat.
He dropped to the ground, writhing in pain. I kept the taser against his flesh until his eyes reluctantly flickered shut.
I painfully started coughing, my hands instantly flying up to my bruised throat.
For a split second, I forgot how to breathe, but the adrenaline pumping through my veins got me through it.
I didn't waste any time. I took the opportunity to escape. My hand pulled at the handle. Then, I pushed the door wide open, bumping into a rock-hard chest.
The familiar scent of sandalwood and something dark filled all my senses. Kyren. I didn't need to look up to know that it was him.
I wrapped my arms around him, burying my face in his chest.
"Hailey, go with Jia. And no matter what you hear or see, don't call 911. I'll be right there," Kyren rasped, his gray orbs fixating on the janitor who was still lying on the floor, writhing in pain.
A cold shiver ran down my spine. His voice was completely devoid of any emotion. And he had this murderous look on his face.
My heart started racing as Josh and Emmett came into my line of view. What were they planning on doing to him?
"Kyren-" I tried, but Jia wrapped his arm around my shoulder, walking me further down the hallway.
"Let them take care of that monster," Jia advised, pulling me into a tight hug. "Why didn't you tell me that you were going through this?" She asked, slowly running a hand over my hair.
"I don't know, I thought I had it under control," I whispered as she pulled back from me. I placed my hands on my throat, throbbing in pain.
The janitor's room shut as soon as Kyren, Josh, and Emmett stepped inside. The sound of things shattering against the floor could faintly be heard.
They were taking matters into their own hands, literally.
"Kyren almost murdered Logan before we got here. We ran into him at the lecture halls, he mentioned taking you to the janitor's room," Jia explained, running a frustrated hand over her hair.
"I never should have come here. I should have waited for Kyren." I whispered out.
"Look on the bright side. You finally melted the Ice King." Jia smiled at me, lacing her arm with mine as we waited for them in the empty hallway.
"I need to officially call that bet off-"
My words were cut off by screams coming from the janitor's room. The sound made goosebumps form on my skin.
Jia looked at me in fear. "Do you think they're killing him?" She questioned in a concerned tone.
I instantly started shaking my head in response. "No. Kyren would never kill someone." I whispered out in the same tone.
My heart rate increased as I imagined all the things they were doing.
"Never say never," Jia nervously breathed, her grip tightening on my arm.
I had a bad feeling about this. The kind of feeling that told me this would end badly. For all of us.
