GUILT

The morning light was too bright. But I didn't care. I hadn't slept. Not really. Because everytime I moved I could feel his hands on my neck. "Kyren," I whispered, my voice still raspy from moaning his name all night. He didn't give me a chance to sit up. He moved over me, pinning me to the mattress with the weight of his body. "You're still in my bed," he rasped, his face inches from mine. "Do you know what that means, Hailey?" I swallowed hard, my eyes searching his. "It means I'm safe." "No," he growled. "It means you're mine. It means that after yesterday, I'm never letting you out of my sight again." He didn't wait for an answer. He claimed my mouth in a kiss that tasted of possession and desperation. His kisses were slow, deep, and utterly consuming. Like he wanted to swallow me whole. I whined, a small, needy sound that vibrated against his lips. My hands came up to grip his biceps, trying to pull him even closer. "Kyren..." I breathed into the kiss, my body arching up to meet his. He broke away just enough to look at me, his chest heaving. "Every inch of this skin," he muttered, his lips brushing against the sensitive spot behind my ear, "belongs to me now. If another man so much as breathes your air, I'll bury him. Do you understand me, Princess?" I froze, my fingers digging into his back. Guilt washed over me. I still needed to call off my bet with Brie. I jumped out of bed, avoiding eye contact with him. "Time to get up or we'll be late for practice." Kyren didn't speak, he just wordlessly watched me as if he could see right through me. Maybe he could, I'm such a bad liar. I left his room, rushing into the bathroom. I locked the door behind me before running a tired hand through my hair. I never thought I would fall for Kyren Wolfe. I mean I swore I wouldn't. What the hell is wrong with me? Why would I bet on someone? I stepped into the shower, trying to wash my guilty conscience clean. But no matter how hard I scrubbed, the guilt wouldn't go away. After a thirty minutes, I finally stepped out of the shower, wrapping a crisp white towel around my body. My heart hammered against my ribs as I unlocked the bathroom door and headed straight to my bedroom. I grabbed my cheer uniform and quickly slipped into it. The bruises on my neck had turned to an ugly purple color. I covered the bruises with makeup. I decided to keep my hair down for more coverage. Nobody could know about what happened at the hospital yesterday. Especially not after Kyren, Emmett, and Josh assaulted him for touching me. A gentle knock coming from my door, snapped me out of my thoughts. I opened the door and found Kyren waiting for me outside. We left the house together. Kyren drove in silence, neither of us spoke. I shifted in my seat to stare out the window. The ride to the arena was short. I jumped out of the car, shutting the door behind me. Kyren wrapped his arm around my shoulders, his addictive scent, sandalwood and rain, took over all my senses. My grip tightened on the small designer bag I was holding. Once we were inside the arena we went our separate ways. I headed into the locker room first. I had to find Brie, so we could put an end to this stupid game, once and for all. "Hailey?" Jia called as soon as I stepped into the locker room. I dropped my purse inside my locker before turning to face Jia. "Have you seen Brie today?" "Brie? I haven't seen her, but she's always late for practice. You know how it goes," Jia uttered while grabbing her pom poms from her locker. "You're right," I nodded in agreement before leaving the locker room. "How are you? I mean after what happened yesterday," Jia whispered, making sure nobody else could hear us. "I don't know, I'm just glad it's over," I uttered before nodding to myself. "I couldn't sleep last night. I was so worried about you and you didn't respond to my texts," she said, running a tired hand through her hair. "I'm sorry," I said before pulling her into a tight hug. "Maybe all I need is some of your mom's spicy tteokbokki," I smiled at her. "You should come over then, you haven't been over at my house in ages," she whined, lacing her arm with mine. "We should have a sleepover," I suggested and she gasped. "Don't we have that trip coming up? Since we haven't had a sleepover in ages we could have one there. And we could invite all the girls, wouldn't that be so much fun?" "One hundred percent," I nodded in agreement. "Alright, girls! Huddle up!" Coach Laurel screamed into the cool air inside the arena. "Why is she screaming like that. Jeez." Jia muttered under her breath. "Coach Ronan and I announced the training camp to you not too long ago. We are leaving on Friday. I don't want excuses, this is a mandatory week-long training intensive. Anyone who's not there will be kicked off the team, am I clear?" "Yes, coach!" We uttered in unison. "Good. Let's start warm-ups. Where the hell is Brielle?" Coach angrily questioned in realization. "I'm here, Coach," Brie uttered as she came running across the mats. "Before you say anything, I won't be late again, Coach," she mumbled before rushing into the locker room to put her belongings away. Coach stormed after her, shutting the door behind them. All the girls curiously stared at the door, wondering what was happening behind them. "I think Coach might actually kick Brie off the squad one day," Jia shook her head in disappointment. "I beg to differ. They act like mother and daughter sometimes. I highly doubt that coach would kick her out," I argued. "True," Jia nodded before starting warmups. I clapped my hands. "Come on, girls. We have a routine to go over. Let's start warmups," I said, slowly examining the girls. My eyes landed on Tessa, who already had a murderous glare on her face. Her eyes locked on mine. She didn't look away, she just kept glaring at me. Seriously, what the hell was her problem? After what she did to me, she still had the audacity to glare at me like she would do it again. She would drop me again. None of this was an accident. She knew exactly what she was doing. And she wasn't going to stop until I was completely out of the picture.
