Bianca noticed that Carsyn had stiffened. When she looked at her, she saw a tear threatening to escape from Carsyn's eye. Unsure how to react, she looked forward, only to see Mr. Andreas watching them.
Bianca wasn't sure if Mr. Andreas was looking at both of them or specifically at Carsyn. She nudged Carsyn with her elbow and turned to see her face wet with tears. The nudge seemed to bring Carsyn back to her senses. She wiped away her tears and forced a smile, though it was obviously strained.
Bianca made a mental note to ask Carsyn about it later. They were in Mr. Andreas's class, a strict teacher who didn't tolerate any side talk. It seemed that earlier, he had been looking at them. When Bianca nudged Carsyn, she had come back to her senses and made brief eye contact with Mr. Andreas.
