Seeking The Past

Chapter 4 - Again

I took a step forward. My feet burned with every step. The air was thick and my eyes burned. I walked out of the smoke to see the burning pack house.

“Not again.” I said to myself. The screams echoed around me and I closed my eyes pleading with myself to wake up. I opened my eyes to the same sight. I looked around to see the trees engulfed as well. I looked down at my naked body only to realize this was not my body. I lifted my hands to see my arms covered in tribal like tattoos. My skin was still a very pale white. I was almost transparent. Kids had made fun of it until they found out I could whoop their butts in training. I looked over and saw a man laying in the rubble. My heart ached and I knew I must go to him. As I approached I could suddenly feel someone shaking me.

“EARTH TO HANNAH!” My eyes shot open. My 16 year old half breed sister sat on my bed.

“Angelica?” I said blinking at her. My throat hurt like I was really there breathing smoke. “The dream felt so real.. it went further.. I’m..” I was babbling looking at my arms.

“What are you talking about? I heard your alarm and I’m trying to read. If you’re getting up then wake the f*ck up and shut your alarm off. It’s bad enough I have to deal with the other werebrats fighting over scraps of bread.” Angelica looked annoyed. Honestly since she turned 13 and found out she didn’t have a wolf yet, she had been completely miserable. It was common for half breeds to not unlock their wolf until they were closer to 18 or when they felt the mate bond and their mate brought their wolf out. I always felt for her.

“You can read in here until I get home.” I got up and begin to change into some sports wear I often used to jog in. Angelica’s expression changed. She had to share a room with our other sister Gena who bragged about her wolf almost rubbing it in to Angelica. I always felt Gena was jealous of Angelica who was very beautiful. Natural spender body with beautiful blonde hair. She never wore make up but didn’t seem to need it with her classic beauty. Gena was more plump and acne had scarred her face. Once they got her the medicine to clear up the acne, her face was already scarred. Her wolf was the only thing she has to hold over Angelica.

“Are you sure Hannah? Thank you so much! You’re the best!” Angelica hugged me from behind as I was grabbing socks. “Wait, where are you going?” She looked at me as I sat at my vanity to put my shoes on.

“I was invited to Charlie’s diner to hang with the alpha crowd. Mom is forcing me to go.” My mind was still reeling from the dream. It has never gone further then it had tonight.

“Yeah right, no one is forcing you to go Hannah. You’re going because you want to.” She plopped into my bed and opened her book. I knew she was right. Part of me wanted to stay home and part of me felt this pull, I had to go, it was where I needed to be. Was I using my mom as a excuse at this point? I sat there for a moment. I needed to get going. Just then the door opened and my mom peeked in.

“Are you ready?” She said in a excited tone and I smiled warmly at her. She was so happy. This was all she ever wanted, for one of us to move up in the ranks. Even if it wasn’t what I personally wanted. It was what she wanted. Us kids so desperately wanted to make her happy.

“Let me guess, you’re driving me?” She lifted her hand jingling the keys at me. Angelica snickered and I gave her a swat on the knee. I walked out of the room and off to Charlie’s we went.

We pulled up and I was so eager to jump out of the car and start running now. The whole way there my mom lectured me about the dangers of pre-mated s*x. Everyone knew that giving birth to pre-mated pups was dangerous. Once you found your mate, most mothers lose love for the pup from another wolf. Some ended up leaving them at the pack house. I wasn’t dumb enough to fall for any wolf’s tricks. I spent my entire life listening to some other person’s pup cry.

“BYE MOM!” I huffed as I closed the door. My mom waved as she drove off. I could see Madison eagerly waving at me as I approached.

“I knew you would come Hannah! Lee told me you wouldn’t come! I knew you would!” She ran up and hugged me really tight.

“Lee is here? Who else is here?” Lee was the Alpha’s youngest son but only by a few minutes. Lee and his brother James were identical twins. James was more serious and responsible. Lee was more adventurous and happy go lucky. It was almost like the Moon goddess knew, even by a few minutes, which one would be Alpha. The easiest way to tell them apart was by the hair. James always had his hair slick back while Lee had longer hair that seem like he was a surfer in another life. Both of them were gorgeous chiseled chins, tan skin, and tall. You could tell they were alpha sons. For only 17, they had massive muscles. Declan was almost their same size and for a moment I started to envy Madison.

“They’re all here silly!” Madison took my hand and led me into the diner where the Alpha twins, Declan, other class elites, and one of the elites mates stood talking. Most of our class was 17, so not many had been mated yet. I stopped in the door as Madison ran and jumped into Declan’s arms. My heart started to beat a little faster as I realized there was only three she wolves including myself. Lee stepped toward me.

“So your Hannah? The one watching us jog this morning?” Lee had a smirk on his face as if to tell me he knew something I didn’t. My face flushed red.

“Lee! Inaprops yo!” The omegas son nudged him. His name was Jason and he talked like he was a surfer. He has the most amazing brown eyes and naturally wavy hair. He was alittle smaller then the others but he made up for it in speed. He beat everyone in our class.

“I’m sorry, I never meant to stare.” I said keeping my eyes down. James stepped forward not saying a word but looking me up and down. His hazel eyes on me felt inappropriate. My chest started to feel like it was burning. He stepped forward and stood in front of me. My body felt like it was melting, almost yearning for him to say something.
