As James stood in front of me I stared at him starry eyed almost hoping he would touch my skin.
“Uh James?” Lee said behind him. The whole group was quiet. Declan crossed his arms almost like he was lounging back enjoying the show.
“Why hasn’t he said anything?” Madison squeaked out. They all seemed to be a little freaked out.
“Hi.” I said breaking the silence between us.
“No. This has to be a mistake.” James said as he turned to Declan.
“What is it man? I thought you said earlier that you felt something in the air while we were jogging. That’s why we took the road toward the middle class area.” Declan wasn’t really making sense to me.
“What’s going on?” Jason said looking at Declan who was smirking at James.
“Let’s just run.” James pushed past me bumping into me. Lee walked up and took my hand. It felt odd but I didn’t protest. I wasn’t really sure what was going on at all.
“It’s your first run as a elite, come on Hannah it’s fun.” Lee seemed warmer now pulling me with them outside and into the cool dark air. Madison grabbed my other hand and pulled me along as well. I was still trying to think of why James had been so cold. Maybe I was too small or maybe too ugly to be a elite. I was pulled to the edge of the tree line. I could see everyone undressing as I scanned along the trees. James caught my eye and glared at me. I immediately adverted my eyes and felt perverted for watching him undress.
“Come on Hannah!” Madison said to me already completely n*ked. I gulped hard and started to undress.
“WoooOOOooo!” Lee called as I took off my top. My body started to flush red. I knew he was only teasing. I finished undressing and sat my clothes in a neatly folded pile by a tree I would remember.
“On my mark!” Declan called out. I could help but notice how lucky Madison was right now as my eyes fixed on his privates. Madison nudged me and giggled almost noticing I was shocked at the size of him.
“1…2…3!” On three we all began to change into our wolves. Declan’s beautiful brown wolf howled and just like that we were off. Weaving though the trees. Running together as your wolf helped create bonds and links between you. The sooner a link was created, the stronger the pack warriors became. This was why the elite groups came together in high school to create their bonds. We all ran until Declan stopped at the edge of a cliff. Over the cliff you could see the evergreen trees. The beauty of the Colombia river off in the distance as the moon light glistened off it’s surface. Declan howled and the rest of us followed suite. I couldn’t tell which wolf was who expect Declan and Madison. Madison was a beautiful golden white wolf. It matched her personality. Wolves began to shift into their human forms. I grew nervous because I had hoped we would run and then go back to our clothes. Everyone was talking, sitting on the rocks. My wolf was a complete black wolf with white tipped ears and paws. I reluctantly shifted back and put my hands over myself. Madison walked over with her perky breasts out ready to give her a black eye if she ran.
“Hannah? Are you shy?” She said quizzically.
“I’m sorry Madison, I don’t go on many runs and I’m not used to showing my human form like this.” Madison gave me a smile.
“You don’t have to be shy, our wolves are all one now.” She gave me a peck on the cheek and I felt calm for some reason. I lowered my arms and joined the group.
The conversation lasted several hours. It was nice to get to know everyone. I was starting to feel included if it wasn’t for the fact James never took his eyes off me. Lee finally came over and blocked James view.
“Don’t worry about my brother. Hey, our birthday party is next week, since you’re one of us now… would you like to come?” It almost seemed like he was shy to ask.
“I would love to!” I said almost too enthusiastically. Lee smiled very wide, his teeth almost glowed in the dark.
“Are we ready to head back?” James said grabbing Lee’s arm. James looked at me, it almost seem like he was glaring and I shrunk in place.
“Please come to our birthday party.” James said with a stern look still on his face. Him and Lee walked away to Declan. Madison walked over to me looking as confused as I felt.
“Is he always like this?” I looked at her hoping for answers that made any sense.
“Unfortunately James has always been rough around the edges. He was a little softer growing up. We always thought we were destined by the moon goddess. When I turned 18 I felt nothing. We had hoped once he was 18 that our bond would wake up. On Declan’s birthday, I walked into the party and it was as if the sky exploded with electricity. I knew we were destined to be together. I always knew deep down that I could never be Luna. I will always feel that childhood friendship for James. I feel bad for hurting him and for hurting Lee.” Her eyes were sad. I placed my hand on her shoulder.
“For hurting Lee?” I felt wrong questioning further.
“Well, sometimes when the twins are Alphas they feel each other’s longing and pain much stronger. When James is hurting, Lee can feel it as well. Sometimes Lee would come to me and cry the tears James refused to spill. Lee is much more sensitive to feelings.” Madison looked around. Declan waved to her, he had a huge smile on his face. “That’s our cue to get in line! We’re going to fall behind!” Madison grabbed me hand and jumped into a shift. I shifted as well to keep up. Once the elite group saw us shifting, the rest followed suite and we returned to Charlie’s.
