CHAPTER 10

10. Ethan || "What do you want?" I grunted as Nathan stopped beside me. "I thought I told you not to come near her." My eyes narrowed at him. Nathan smiled. "Calm down little brother." "Don't call me that!" I nearly lost my cool and sighed. I glanced in the direction Rachael left and turned back to him. "Dear brother, I hope you are getting ready for tomorrow? I wanted to remind you when I win tomorrow—" "You aren't winning tomorrow," I cut him off. "Okay, correction. If I win tomorrow, I will make sure to end it quickly. I'm not that wicked." "Look, the only reason you are still here is because you are the chairman and my brother. If you overstep again, I will be forced to act, especially when it comes to Rachael," I spoke sternly. Nathan's eyes danced on my face and he chuckled. "You know you have a woman betrothed to you right? Don't tell me you want to have s*x with the we—" I glared at him. I tore large holes in his skull with my eyes. At least, in my mind it was what happened. Nathan noticed and rephrased his words. "That woman. Stay away from her, because I will deal with her accordingly." His voice was low and deadly, showing that the threat was real. Even the guards that were at his sides stirred uncomfortably. I looked around and nodded. "If you don't have anything to tell me, can I go now, Mr. Chairman?" The amusement in Nathan's eyes died and he looked around, as if he was cautious. He flicked his fingers and the guards gave us the room. "Now listen, I'm only doing this so that you will be on your best behavior tomorrow." He paused and clenched his jaws. "Influential people will be around, so no matter what happens, be well behaved and keep that temper down." "Stop beating around the bush, tell me what's wrong?" My hands were firm at my side. Nathan lowered his voice. "There are bigger forces at play." He whispered. What? "It's more than this woman. There is something else we don't know. Be careful, Ethan." Nathan annoyed me in a lot of things, but I knew I could always trust what he said. If something was up, and he could smell it, then it was true. "How do you know that?" I demanded. "That's your piece of cake. Investigate—" he turned and then stopped. "Also, the people—The rogues that attacked Rachael in the city? My men went after them, because they knew she was a hybrid. But we were unlucky, they were already dead before we found them." I had already thought it was suspicious they knew who she was, but it skipped my mind. "Somebody killed them," I whispered. "Somebody's trying to burn all loose ends." Nathan nodded. "Find that loose end, and he careful." He sounded worried and left. I looked around and saw that I was alone in the corridor. Only for the guards at the entrance which was a distance from where I was. It could be possible that these people might have already made it into Ravensclaw pack. I stared at the large crest, the one bearing the insignia of the back and stared. A raven and a wolf, at either side of the crest, displaying strength and intelligence. I feared this little time of peace we had would only last for that long. I had to do everything to protect Rachael, now that her uncle wasn't there. I might be the only one that could help her in this place. Speaking of Rachael, why did she ignore me? I held my face as I recalled the incident. It was like a slap on my face, I had never been treated like that. Maybe I kind of deserved it for touching her. That wasy punishment, she was mad at me because I took advantage of her in a difficult time. My only saving grace was, I never went all the way. Which would have been a different story. But deep in my heart, I yearned for her touch again. Kneeling over her body and watching her like that made me hard. She had a magnificent body, one she hid with clothes. I got a grip on myself and went to the guard outpost, a small building just inside the residence of the castle. "Master Ethan," the commander of the guards got in his feet when he saw me walk through the door. "What brings you here?" "It's nothing, only a little favour." I sat in the seat provided and looked arouhd. His office smelled of iron, paper and incense. There were a lot of armour helmet on the walls, like a collection. I suspected he collected them as a hobby. Commander of the guards, Edwards Lee scratched his face and leaned forward. "You know you don't need to ask for a favour from me? We are your subjects." "Right, I see." I nodded and glanced at him. The small scar on his left cheek seemed to have grown wrinkled. "I want you to place one of your trusted men outside Rachael's room tonight, it just has to be for a while." Edwards leaned back and scratched his neatly shaven stubble. "I see, because of the pressure of Lord Nathan? I will do that immediately," he assured me. The news has spread far and wide, for even Edward, a closely knit person to notice. "Yes, please do that immediately." I got on my feet and placed my hand on the table. "Oh, my lord? I also have to remind you, tomorrow will be quite hectic, since everyone's coming." Edward looked serious. "Sirius Jaeger is going to be present." My finger twitched briefly. A name that brought massive pain in the ass, one with dark affiliations. It made me wonder who he was and what he wanted to do. I clenched my jaws. "Have men watch him. We will be going outside the castle for this meeting. Security has to be on max." "That is why I need your confirmation to provide special assistance from the soldiers to be present." "Do it, no matter the cost. We can never be too relaxed when he's around," I replied.
