Sarah and I were on the move rather early the next morning. She appeared in my room around four, which made me very cranky, took my bath and I was done with almost everything before five thirty at the crack of dawn.
She even had my dress prepared, a black dress with red collars like the packs uniform and I was given a black translucent veil on my head.
"Aren't we having the meeting in the castle?" I yawned as she led me out of the room. It was very chilly, I rubbed my arms to generate some warmth. My eyes still hurt from waking up early.
"No, it's involving everyone in the land. Big names, far and near will come. They fear we might harm them, that's why they are all meeting in a neutral location just outside town." Sarah explained as we descended down the stairs.
Such a large castle, but there was no elevator. Sarah had explained before that the alpha didn't want to ruin the antique look of the grey castle.
The castle was quite lively, with guards patrolling the corridor.
Once, I heard Edgar Frost's voice.
Outside, a fleet of cars waited. I was taken back by the brands and quality of vehicles available. It was like they hoarded all luxurious cars and known brands for themselves. And they were all painted black.
I got into one of the vehicles and looked outside the window, hoping to see someone I knew.
Hoping to see Ethan. I might be jealous, but it made me nervous that he wasn't here with me.
"Where's Ethan?" I craned my neck at the window where I sat. "I haven't seen him?"
"He is already in the car at the front, he's leaving with the alpha and his brother," Sarah answered. Her hands were on her thigh and she rubbed her arms together.
It was subtle, but it was obvious that she was quite nervous about it.
The road was open, so travelling across town wasn't taking as long as I expected. The sun had already risen on the horizon and the last of the cars still had their headlights on as we zoomed past.
A few minutes later, the city outskirts loomed. A large mansion stood ahead, sticking out like a sore thumb in the countryside. I already knew it was there the meeting was taking place.
My stomach couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. Sarah had offered me some chips, but I declined them.
A few hours from now, Nathan will convince everyone to have me killed. That is if, Edgar and Ethan weren't true to their words. But I put all my odds on Ethan. I hated to say it, but he was the only one I could rely on to help me.
The car slowed down in front of the mansion, as were the others. The guards stepped out first, followed by Edgar Frost and son.
Ethan wasn't dressed casually like I was used to, he wore a black suit with red ties, signifying his pack. His brother more or less did the same but with a white shirt and red tie, with a black suit.
Edgar Frost stood out from his sons. He wore a white coat, made entirely of wolf fur. He wore a red band around his arm with the pack's insignia and looked around.
Sarah suddenly stepped in first, and opened the door to let me out.
There were faces and uniforms I didn't recognize here. The veil was on my head, but everyone stared in my direction. Sarah led me to a corner, just behind Edgar and his sons and we waited for the procession.
"Seems like we came right on time, boys?" Edgar glanced at his watch.
"Not a minute later, not a minute earlier. Right on time, father," Nathan chimed.
Ethan wasn't having it, he must have seemed nervous too. He glanced once in my direction, and our eyes held there. My chest started beating fast and I looked away. My cheeks were hot and my legs felt tingly.
Such an effect, from that far? Who was this guy? Why did he affect me like this?
Apart from that, I couldn't ignore why he looked very worried.
Edgar exchanged pleasantries with some officials outside the mansion while we waited outside to be complete.
Another procession of cars arrived and I noticed how Ethan straightened up.
"Who's that?" I asked Sarah.
Sarah glanced at me and back at the car. "That, my lady, is the Riverdale pack. Their Alpha has arrived," she spoke tight-lipped.
Naomi Rutherford, the daughter of the alpha. She would be here too, the woman that Ethan was promised to.
A large man, this one fat, and aging stepped out of the car with the help of other guards and caught his breath. I wonder how an Alpha could get so fat. He walked up to Edgar and there was an exchange of firm handshakes.
A young woman, at least in her early twenties stepped out. She was an attractive brunette, with brown eyes. Ethan stepped forward and received her hands and planted a kiss on it.
I looked away and clenched my teeth. This was happening in front of me.
"Well, well, look who finally decided to come visit." Nathan approached her and clapped his hands. He might have glanced in my direction once.
"Nathan, it's been a while. I heard you are now a chairman."
"Well I—"
"Naomi, the journey must have been long. Why don't you rest at the side for a while?" Ethan suggested as he cut his brother off.
I really didn't like what I was seeing. I looked at Sarah for support, but she was looking down to the ground as if telling me to deal with it myself.
Naomi walked to the back and her eyes fell on me. There was an awkward pause and she held the gaze for five seconds.
"She looks like I know her from somewhere?" She asked Ethan.
"Really? Where?" Ethan asked.
"I can't really remember." Naomi looked away and her hair danced behind her back. "Anyways, we are all here now. Let's commence the meeting."
"Sure," Nathan replied and turned back to his father. "Alpha Edgar? It's time."
Edgar nodded. "Commence," he mouthed from afar.
A supercar roared and pulled to a stop at the mansion and the guards became tense. The door slowly opened upwards and a man stepped out. He was dressed in totally black suit, it was like he has no affiliations with any pack.
There was a distinctive eye patch on his face, and a large scar above and below his eye patch, a sign that his eyes were damaged.
My skin started to crawl in his presence. He wasn't someone to be messed with.
"Well, well well—" he clapped his hands. "I never expected you to start before me." His eyes darted to me, and my blood froze. There was an evil smirk on his face.
Even Nathan glared at him. "What are you doing here Sirius Jaeger?"
