Jenna's POV:
Three weeks have passed since Austin and I met again, and it's been like a dream.
Although him working as a programmer from the comfort of his home meant he could watch Benji pretty much all day long, I constantly offered to babysit.
He's been so enclosed in his 'wake up, take care of baby, work, take care of baby, sleep' routine, that he drove his social life to damnation.
I'm positive Benjamin and I were the only people he ever talked to, so I decided to give him a little push and convince him to go out.
I was currently picking my little nephew up from Austin's apartment so that he'd come home with me.
Opening the door with the key I had gotten done for me to keep, I walked straight inside only to hear the shower running.
Leaving my purse over the kitchen counter, I decided to pack baby necessities to take with me, only to notice a bag already full of stuff laying on the couch.
Amused by how much endeavor my brother had towards his son, I walked to his bedroom and closed the bathroom door.
He'd always leave it open in case the baby started crying, so that he could hear him.
That's why I decided to close it, letting him know I had already arrived.
Grabbing baby Ben from his crib, I directed my body towards the kitchen, where a much needed coffee awaited me.
Sipping on the magic liquid, I softly lull the bundle of joy into a deep slumber while humming to the song 'Sober' from Demi.
Hearing the bathroom door open and close, I wait for Austin to come out, him doing so in a white t-shirt, black trousers and a dark blue jacket.
"Looking good brother, who's feet are we gonna idolize today?", I mucked smugly.
"I'm going out with a girl who works at the coffee shop across the street." He answered while looking for his keys.
Noticing they were at the kitchen counter, I softly rattle them catching his attention with the noise produced, and later on throwing them to him.
With one precise movement of his left arm, he caught them easily.
"And I haven't seen her feet yet, but if they're anything like her face, I'm sure I'll enjoy sucking on those too".
He wore the kind of smirk that would bring any girl to her feet, or maybe knees since it's Austin we're talking about...
Pretending to gag, I fake a dramatic gasp while covering the baby's ears.
"Don't you dare taint this little boy with your nastiness!".
"Oh sis, he's my son, he was born tainted", he joked.
He's probably right though, if he's anything like his father, this baby's gonna be nasty nasty nasty when he grows up.
Giving the cup of coffee I was holding a bizarre look, he turned fully to me and grabbed it from my grasp, throwing the liquid into the sink.
"Hey! What was that for?", I asked irritated by his sudden action.
"Look sis, I read somewhere that too much coffee can make you dizzy and give you headaches and even fever. It's considered a drug you know?
Listen, if you wanna carry on with your addiction, fine by me, but not while you're looking after my kid".
I couldn't help the laugh that escaped my lips.
"Stop being so paranoid Austin, that only happens when you overdose on coffee, this is my first cup of the day. Chill out, would ya?".
With a deep sigh and a worried face expression, he rubbed the back of his neck in tiredness.
"I'm sorry Jenna. It's just... this is the first time I've left Benjamin alone and I- *sigh* I really can't help but feel overwhelmed".
Patting his back in understanding, I hugged him from the side and lied my head on his shoulder.
"I know big bro, and I get it. But I also know you deserve to have some fun as well, especially after everything you've had to put up with over the last seven years".
"Jenn-"
"Just one night Aus, for me. Please?".
Doubt was still visible in his eyes, but he caved eventually.
After grabbing our belongings, we turned all the lights off and locked the door, waiting for the elevator to come so that we'd reach the lobby.
One 'ding' later and we were already on the ground floor.
As each of us were about to leave towards our respective cars, he softly grabbed my upper arm signaling me to wait.
Giving one warm kiss to my forehead, he rested his in mine and looked at me through his thick eyelashes.
"Thank you Jenna".
Returning the gesture with a quick peck on his nose, we both parted ways.
-
The sun was already about to go down when Benji and I reached my apartment building.
Getting out of the car, I take the bag in one hand while holding Ben closely to my chest, protecting him from the chilly night breeze.
Just as I was about to open the door to my building, I realized my hands were kind of not able to help right now, as each was holding something.
Deciding to leave the bag on the floor next to me, I felt the unsettling sensation that someone's eyes were on me.
Turning so that I was now facing the street, I effectively saw a man walking towards me with a gentle smile.
"Let me get that for you", he said while opening the door for me to get in.
Offering him an honest smile, I reach down to get the bag only for him to beat me to it.
"There", he said while handing it back. "We wouldn't want that beautiful baby of yours to fall off now, would we? I'm Jonathan by the way".
"Jenna", I offered back. "And it's not my baby, but thanks for the compliment though".
We smile at each other before I walk off towards the elevator.
"Nice meeting you Jenna, see you soon", the man said while tipping on his phone, later bringing it to his ear.
"Same to you," I answered, not really processing what he had just said.
It wasn't until I was on the elevator that his words sank in.
'See you soon?' I wonder what he meant by that, although it's probably just one of those impulsive answers people tend to give when passing by someone.
Like seeing a neighbor and saying 'hi' while they say 'bye'... Awkward af.
Shrugging the matter off, I reached my apartment and opened the door, closing it behind me.
After settling everything into place, I sat the baby on its chair at the couch and I crouched in front of him while looking at the time on my phone's watch.
"Well baby boy, what shall we do now?"
