On the way home, Historia told Aileen that someone was after her. Of course, she would not tell her roommate that some sick vampire was after her. Just the context itself is crazy. Aileen would think she has gone mad like her parents.
"Are you sure it's alright that we don't call the cops?"
"Yes, it's fine. That man was probably insane."
"Damn..." Aileen muttered with brows furrowed. "Why don't you get some rest? That was damn chaotic."
Historia nodded.
"I'll go shower and go to bed."
As said, Historia took her time in the shower. She doesn't know if that creature would still linger on her or maybe he melted already. It was a scream of pain he let out earlier. Holy water does affect them.
When she finished, she switched off the shower. She turned to get her towel when she saw the creature standing right in front of her. No traces of burn on his face but instead, an evil smirk plastered his mouth.
Historia was well aware that she was naked but she couldn't care when the fear already has its grasp on her whole body. She can't even move.
"Scream and your companion will think you're crazy," he calmly said.
He took a stride closer, not breaking eye contact. As he did that, she had to move back until her skin touched the cold tiles of the shower wall. Her face was pale, written all over it was fear.
His eyes intimidated her, electrocuting the insides of her. He lifts his hand, letting his long fingers brush on her soft cheeks. All she could do was glare at him, tears in the corners of her eyes, unable to move and embarrassed.
"You must be cold. You're shaking." His voice was rough and dark and he withdrew.
From her hand, he took the towel and unfolded it. He gazes at her body, small but the curves were all in the right places. A man won't be able to resist this woman but he was no ordinary man. When he did that, she couldn't help but look away.
"I'm not interested in your human body," he stated, wrapping the towel around her. "I'm here to get your answer."
"But I ha-have two d-days," she stammers.
He shifted his eyes from the towel to her, his full lips now pressed in a thin line. "After spraying me with this?" He snap his finger and there appeared that bottle with holy water. To show its effect, he removed the cap and pour it onto him, making her gasp. But he didn't scream like earlier. "It just soaks me like normal water."
"Bu-But earlier you--"
Out of nowhere, he just pushes her back against the wall, his body against hers, and his hand pinning her wrist where the bracelet was while the other rests on her waist, pulling her towel up the hip. He looks her in the eyes, his feature darkened.
"How many times do I have to tell you not to get on my bad side?" he grunted. "I'm not the type who can control my fury."
Historia knew she was dead either way. Even the bracelet that's on her wrist doesn't have any effect on him. Her only weapon is the sun and she's only safe under the daylight.
"Historia?" She hears Aileen's worried voice. "Are you okay? You're there too long!"
They look at each other and he nodded, signaling her to respond.
"Ye-Yeah, I'm fine! I'll be out in a moment!"
"Meet me outside when you're dressed and give me an answer," he demanded, and just like that vanished again.
Historia fell to her knees, holding her chest while catching her breath. It's time to face the reality that she can never get rid of that creature. The fact that he can appear and go whenever he likes makes it more dangerous for her. There's no escaping him.
After Historia got dressed, she was the one to shut the windows and lock the doors. Aileen is always the one who closes the window so now she's looking at Historia weirdly.
"Is there something you're not telling me?" Aileen was really worried. "You're acting different."
"No, there's nothing to tell." She shakes her head but her face says otherwise.
"I'm your friend, Historia. You can trust me."
Of course, she can trust Aileen and she has been trusting her all this time they were together. Her only problem is that she doesn't want to be burdened and worried like she is now for somebody else's sake. That creature can harm Aileen and she doesn't want that!
"Listen to me, I will be away for a while. There's someone after me so I have to go back to my father for a while."
"A stalker?" Aileen gasped, covering her mouth.
"Yes, that kind of thing," she answered.
"We should report it to--"
"It's alright, Aileen. My father will help me so you don't have to worry."
Aileen nodded.
"Just come back, okay? And call me whenever you need anything. I know you despise your father so it'll be really hard on you."
"I'll be fine."
Aileen ran to wrap her arms tightly around her. "I told you a man was standing outside the terrace!" her roommate cries.
Now that Aileen mentions the man outside the terrace, maybe it was even real. Maybe he was always there just watching her, waiting for the perfect opportunity and he has seen it.
In the middle of the night, Historia tiptoed toward the door, carefully opened it, and sneaked out without Aileen knowing. She descended the building and went outside. He was already there, standing still so she walk to him. It's another cold night and she forgot to wear a thick jacket.
"Took you long to come down," he stated.
"I had to make sure she was asleep." She rubs her hands together, blowing heat into them. "Can't you just find another bride? Can't I return the ring to you?"
"If you can, I'll let you go."
Historia felt the excitement rushing in her veins and she tries to take off the ring but it wouldn't come off. She tries her very best but it won't. Come to think of it, she has never taken it off ever since she decided to put it on her finger instead of keeping it as a pendant.
"It's not coming off!"
"Exactly," he coldly uttered. "Either you die or you become mine."
"How do I know I can trust you?"
"You don't," he responded, making her frown. "But I swear on the moon that I will bring you back the moment you fulfill your duty."
"A duty I didn't even sign up for," she mumbles.
"I heard that." He looks at the way she kept rubbing her hands. It was distracting him so he took off his jacket and tossed it to her. "Wear it."
Historia didn't argue and just put it on. It was big enough to cover her hands. He wasn't all that bad, she just need to stop making him upset. She's already decided anyway.
"What if I can't fulfill it?"
"This is why I am here making sure you will."
There was a lot she doesn't know. Things like, where he came from, where is the wedding, and why they needed to wed. She wants answers.
"Is the world ending? Is that why I need to marry you because I swear I don't understand what's happening right now!"
"You don't need to understand anything. You just have to marry me and you can come back here and resume your lowly life."
"Lowly life?" She scoffs, glaring at him.
"You dare glare at me?"
"Yes!" she snapped. Historia realized what she did and look away, biting her lower lip. How could she shout at him when she was supposed to be on his good side? "I'm sorry," she almost whispered.
"If you are then give me your answer," he coldly demanded. If he doesn't marry soon, war will definitely happen.
"I want to know why I should marry you! At least answer that!"
This is exactly why he hates humans. They ask too much about things they don't even have to ask. They are beating around the bush.
Historia noticed the way his expression dulled, his eyelids drooped, and even his eyes were turning a different color. She should've paid more attention to his temper.
"I'll be your bride! I'll marry you!" she finally shouts. In the blink of his eyes, his whole aura changed. How she felt it, she doesn't know but she could already feel whatever he was feeling. "There are things I want to know in return."
He looks down at her, an eyebrow raised.
"Utter what you want," he demanded.
"I want to know how my mother got a hold of this ring, how she died, and how she knows about vampires..." She avoided his gaze and that's when she realized something; she doesn't know his name yet.
"Is that everything?"
"No, I want to know your name too."
