Historia felt her body getting shaken and she groans, slowly opening her eyes to see her roommate, Aileen. It took her two seconds and widen her eyes, and abruptly sit up, startling her roommate.
"Yo, what's up with you?" Aileen asked with a frown.
"How did I get here?"
"I don't know. When I went home, you were already asleep."
She looks around and everything was normal. To be sure, she pinches her arm and she felt pain. Did she have a nightmare? Her forehead creased when she saw that she was still in her dress. The last time she remember, she was falling from her father's building. What the heck happened?
"Are you okay? Did you lose something?" Aileen continuously asked.
"No, I am fine." She doesn't like it when her roommate worries so she flashes her a smile. "Don't you have work today?"
"I do. And you do too that's why I woke you up."
The moment she gazes at their wall clock, her eyes widened and she jumps off her bed, heading towards their bathroom only to go back and get her towel.
"You go ahead, Aileen! I'll catch up!"
Historia took a quick shower and when she finished, she wrapped a towel around her. She rushed outside and froze when she saw a man sitting on her bed. He looked up and their eyes met.
Even though she wanted to go back inside the bathroom, she couldn't move anymore. It's like a block of concrete was stuck on both her feet and she started breathing heavily. It was all real. Of course, it was.
"The kind of look I was hoping for," he said, standing up.
Historia noticed the changes in him now that he was seen in the light with no more blood on his face. He is a tall, muscular man with mid-length straight black hair that reaches to his ears. His eyes were electric blue, and he has thick black eyebrows.
She also noticed how the curtains were all tightly closed. There was no more question about that because he's a vampire and of course, he wouldn't dare let the light of the sun touches his skin.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him, finally able to move and let her hand go from the doorknob.
"I came to remind you it wasn't just a dream."
"You think I'd forget you after you let me fall off that building?" she fires at him. "You must be mad to do that!"
"I'll do that again if you don't give me an answer," he casually muttered, looking away with a disgusted face. "Get dressed. You're turning into an eyesore."
"How dare you!" she yells, covering her chest with her hand, and glaring at him. "Go away, you pervert!"
"Pervert?" he questions and scoffed. "There's nothing to look at, human."
"Then look away!"
"You have two days!" He twitched his upper lip. "I'm leaving!"
Before she could say a comeback, he snapped his fingers and he disappeared, leaving a mist of dark smoke. She could finally breathe fine again. What can she f*****g do so he would leave her alone?
At the library, while Historia works, she reads books about vampires. She was too focused on it that she didn't notice a person standing in front of the desk.
"I thought you weren't interested in these creatures," a feminine voice said.
She looks up and saw the girl who keeps on borrowing books about these creatures. Instead of giving her the usual I-don't-give-a-f**k face, she smiled at the young lady.
"Not until I recollected that I was being rude to you," she stated.
"It's okay." The girl gave her a sweet smile, handing her the borrowed book. "I finished this."
"How was it?" she asked. "Did you find out what these vampires hate?"
She doesn't know if she was being obvious but she wanted to know. Her mother never mentioned anything about a vampire's weakness and her father, she doesn't want to talk to him.
"Well, they hate getting provoked. They also don't like holy waters and anything silver."
"Really?"
"Uhuh!" The young lady nodded. "Those are all facts. I've read it in a book that's not fiction. Why do you ask anyway?"
"Nothing," she muttered. "Just in case I see one."
The lady laughed. "I like this conversation with you. Mind if I borrow more of them books?"
"No, not at all. I'll see ya when you find more."
Holy water and silver aside from the obvious sunlight. She doesn't have any silver but yes, she could buy one with her savings. Her life is more important than money. And for the holy water, maybe she can visit a church and get some.
"I need to go shopping again," she mumbles under her breath.
As soon as her shift ended, she texted Aileen that she was going shopping, and to her surprise, her roommate said she was coming. So they meet up at the mall.
Aileen was her only friend but she never considers anyone as her best friend. Growing up, she didn't have that many school friends and they eventually lost touch. It didn't bother her but it would be a waste if she loses Aileen.
"Was work bad that you suddenly want to buy a silver bracelet?" Aileen asked.
"No," she answered, "I just don't want younger men thinking they can hit on me."
"Ahh. Of course, they won't be able to help themselves when they see your beauty! You're so pretty!"
Pretty? She suddenly thought about that vampire and realized she doesn't know him yet, not even his name. And he called her an eyesore making her scoff.
"What about that ring? Isn't that enough to trick them into you're married?"
Historia looks at the ring her mother gave her. As a child, she always wanted it and when her mother died, she kept it as her mother told her to. Now, she's wearing it and became some vampire's bride! To hell she would agree with that!
She flashed a smile to Aileen. "Sadly they know the ring trick pretty well," she tells her. "You've been dating your boyfriend for a while. Do you guys have plans on ever getting married?"
Aileen softly chuckled. "I don't know. It's almost similar to you not wanting to date anyone."
"Having a man is a lot of work!" Historia rolls her eyes, finally seeing a bracelet she likes. She looks at the price and she almost wants to cry.
The price doesn't matter, she convinces herself. She can just sell it as soon as this man leaves her alone. And so she bought the silver bracelet.
Historia and Aileen eat out and when they finished they went out, splitting the bill. Once they were outside, Historia told her roommate to go back first.
"Is there somewhere you need to go?"
"Uhm... I'm stopping by the church," Historia answered.
"The church? I didn't know you were religious," Aileen remarked.
"Yeah, me too."
Aileen laughed. "I'll take you there. You'll be quick, right?"
She nodded and hop in Aileen's car.
The good thing about churches is that they are always open, whether you're a passerby, a believer, or a thief. It always welcomes you.
While Aileen waits, Historia went inside. In front of the holy water bowl that they put in a big clam shell right at two corners of the door, she took out her small spray bottle. She fills it fully and puts the spray cap back.
Just as she turned around, she froze when she sees the familiar image of a tall man leaning against the door. How is he here? Does he know her plan?
"Why are you here?" she asked.
"What do you plan to do with that?" He nods at the bottle in her hand.
Historia swallowed hard, thinking of an excuse. "I ran out so I--"
"You barely come here," he interrupted her, pushing himself off the doorway and started taking steps towards her.
As he was getting closer, Historia was taking a step back but at one point, she knew she can't lie about the holy water. So, she stopped and face him.
They were face to face, the expression on his face dark like his hair.
"Let me ask you again. What do you plan with that?"
"I-I..." she tries her best to look him in the eyes. When he gazed back, she took the chance to lift her hand and sprayed the holy water at him, running for her life. She hears his painful scream but she kept running towards Aileen's car.
"Get in and start-up!"
Aileen frowned, rushing inside the car and doing what Historia said. She reached and opened the door to the other side so Historia could slide in.
"Why were you running? What's with the rush?"
"I'll tell you on the way!" Historia shouts. "Drive, Aileen!"
