A dragon's scales were the source of a dragon's strength and helped a dragon cast a protective shield around them when in danger. Furthermore, the scales provided dragons with at least one unique power, and in the case of someone like Vern, the prince of the dragon realm, the scales served as much more. He had learnt to control all elements to some extent and the dragon scales could withstand havoc wrecked by wind and water alike. They would be a source of strength under water, and, if required, they could serve as a shield protecting the owner from fire as well as serve as a means to escape via air.
