Chapter one (Dinner picnic)
Jimmie drove his posh car and parked it accurately at the Hotel's car parking bay. From the front passenger seat, came his wife Terry clad in a flowery red dress. From the back seats were their two kids, Tom and Malia.
"Hey kids you'll all stay their until a wild dog drags both of you out and devour you?" their dad teased. Tom panicked and quickly unlocked the door and off he got. Malia on the other hand gave a blank stare to her dad as if she was on another world of fantasy. "Malia!! step out!" her mother's voice echoed through the storey buildings aligned in a superfluous manner.
Jimmie had decided to bring his family for a dinner at this luxurious Riverside hotel complex. He believed that this will by any chance bring his wife to a deceiving belief that he loves her.
They all assembled at the reception led by Jimmie. Upon all transactions cleared, Jimmie led his only family to a spacious table mainly preserved for them. "This place is so cool, i love it so much. "Terry exclaimed romantically eying her husband who then pretended not to hear. Maybe he was in deep pity for Terry his wife. Little did she knew what plans her husband possessed.

Jimmie was the last born boy in a family of six. He was the favorite son to his parents. Since he was a small boy, his mother was always his comforter. On the other hand his dad was his solely provider. Jimmie didn't lack a penny whenever he needed one. He grew up in an environment where he made his own choices at a very young age. This made him grow in a strange way.He could sometime misplace money any how whenever he is sent to an errand at the shop. Nothing happened to him when he came home faking a cry with no money. However if any of his siblings attempted such an act, this would earn them a thorough beating from their dad. His dad was the most feared. He was a ferocious lion.

Terry sat quietly at the magnificent dinner table. She admired her husband Jimmie. She had given him all of her love. She had been his comforter in times of need. Back, three years down the line they used to live in a poor and humble background. Jimmie had been retrenched from his initial job. Life was hard. Sometimes they missed a meal. She remembers vividly how she toiled daily looking for a meal.
Her kibanda shop mainly for selling groceries had been shut down by the Officers of town council mainly referred to as kanjo by locals in that small town they lived before relocating. This was due to failure of paying tax. How could she afford to pay tax and yet she was the bread winner of her family? Attempts to re-open her kibanda bore no fruit. Local authorities could not accept her pleas since she had nothing to offer. She remembers when one of the officers rejected her request of opening her shop by a simple quote that, mkono mtupu haulambwi. She gave up. No more pleading to these corrupt individuals.
They were all taken away by their deep thoughts while awaiting to be served by the waiters. They didn't realize their kids were missing. It was after a short time that the couple came back to reality. Malia and Tom were nowhere to be seen. A search ensued.
"Malia, Tom!!",Terry ran across all corridors looking for them. She panicked. She called on top of her voice. They even organized a search party. It was after a two good hours of complete search to near exhaustion that the two angels miraculously appeared. Malia had met her friend Grace at the next dinner table, they quietly walked out not to be spotted by their parents. Grace and Malia were best friends at Laisser Hill Academy. For them, meeting at the same hotel and at the same time was a miracle. They had decided to go out and stroll along the hotel parking bays. This was a great risk. They would have been kidnapped. Tom had trailed behind them just to keep them company.
Malia quickly jumped to an apology, tears welling up in her eyes. due to the love that Terry head for her kids she forgave them. Jimmy could not control his anger. he backed at Tom for being so irresponsible. how could Tom and her sister sneak out of the hotel without their consent? he was furious. Terry managed to calm him down. she knew him well. she knew how to handle his anger. for the years she had stayed with him she had got to understand him better.
"let us go back inside," Jimmy requested. they all left and joined him back at the dinner table. the waitress had been waiting all this time at their table for their order. As a family Jimmy requested one set of the same meal to be served to each member of his implied unity, after which everyone can request any other meal of their interest. "I love weetabix mum," Malia exclaimed. Her mother smiled. Every time Malia had requested her to buy her some weetabix she always escaped. This time Malia had caught her. No place to hide. "I will order it for you dear," her mother said smiling.
The waitress came back with a tray packed with steaming plates containing a special meal. The tray landed carefully on the table and food was unpacked. Four dishes were placed on the table, one for each person. A glass of water was also served. A big bowel centrally positioned on the table was finally opened unveiling a sweet aroma. All this time Tom who had been busy watching animations on his laptop which was bought by his dad on his fourth birthday jerked to full attention of what was happening around. He quickly powered off The gadget and composed himself.Hunger pangs now revealed themselves in his small belly. It was fried chicken drumsticks immersed in pounded wheat. Everyone loved the meal. The table was set and Malia prayed for the meal. She was never forgetful like her brother Tom. Tom could forget to pray for a meal only to remember when his belly was half full. Their time in a religious environment and everyone more so Malia strictly adhered to it. she was to lead her brother by an example.
Everyone began to enjoy the meal. Tom sank his teeth in the juicy flesh with delicacy. He seemed to enjoy every moment. His dad loved him so much. He knew that Tom will take his name to the next generation. Even if sometimes he would find himself angry at Tom his love will be compared to nothing. Ever since Tom was born Jimmy always had peace of mind. On the other hand his daughter Malia only proved his manhood since she was his first born. Jimmy's love towards Malia faded upon arrival of his heir, Tom. Though he never messed her, he took care of them all. He did not want any of his children to notice favouritism.
After about thirty minutes, everyone seemed satisfied. Jimmy excused himself out to pick one or two calls, "mom, the food was yummy," Malia and Tom chorused. "Then You two should thank your daddy for bringing us here, you hear me?" "yes mom, they nodded in unison. The same waiter who had served them have an hour ago came to clear their table and perhaps deliver to them their bill. Terry thanked the waitress for her kindness. Her children thanked her as well. The waitress left smiling with the tray now containing empty plates and glasses.
Outside, just along the flower beds, Jimmy talked softly over the phone. He seemed troubled. He talked over the phone and also using nonverbal cues at the same time as if he was talking to someone face to face. When he came back from the look of his eyes his beloved wife could tell something was a miss. "Are you okay?" Terry asked. "Yeah," Jimmy responded faking a smile. Quickly he cleared the bill, thanked the waitress and they all left for a photo shoot inside the hotels flower garden after which Jimmy led them to the car parking bay for a journey back home. Everyone was excited apart from Terry who knew something was wrong with his husband Jimmy especially after he had gone outside to pick a call. she kept mute.
