CHAPTER 14: Running Around

The lesson was tense for sure, but I think that was really cause of the stares we were receiving. Of course we had a massive bawl at lunch but it was like they were expecting part 2 to happen right now. 

I tried to ignore the stares even though I’d catch myself looking back at people who awkwardly just look away when I'd catch them in the act “Strange” I whisper to myself finishing my equation 

“Are you going to keep looking at me or do your actual work?” I look up annoyed at Wintyr whose eyes were also on me 60% of this lesson 

He sighs and reaches into his bag putting a piece paper in front of me “Don’t forget to have your dad sign it if you still want to go” He says then gets up with his bag “I’m feeling sick” He announces and just leaves the class without waiting for a reply from Mr Bwali “Young man!” He calls after him but it was too late cause he was already out the door “Weirdo” I shake my head, now people really would believe we got into another one 

I stare at his notepad and pen still on the table ‘you really are an i***t aren’t you?’ I put my glasses back on and put his things into my bag making a mental note to remember to hand them back to him 

When the lesson ends, the girls had been stood outside my classroom waiting for me to leave “Hey!!” I say and they perk up “Ready to have the best night ever?!?!” Lily jumps on my pulling me out of school completely different to her mood at lunch “Of course she is” Megan says as we spots Lyra’s dad’s car parked up front “I really needed this guys hahaha-“ I start to giggle but look to the car park noticing Wintyr’s car had gone but I was pretty sure Summyr was still in class “Come on” Lyra pushes me in ripping my attention away and I focus back on them smiling “Hi Mr Ahmed” I greet Lyra’s dad who smiles widely “Hi girls, squash in” He helps us in kindly

the next day

Period 2 was cancelled today, cause the teacher didn't show up and the substitute was out sick, so we had a free period which I decided to spend in the classroom since I knew the library would be packed with my other classmates. I look in front of me at the two boys who also decided to stay as well, but try my best to focus as they were just chatting rather than doing their work 

“Looks like we keep bumping into each other” I look up to see Cole's head poking through the classroom door “Cole. Hi” I accidentally squeak and he chuckles taking it as a cue to enter, the others don’t even focus on us as they were so deep in their conversation 

“How comes you’re here alone?” “Class got cancelled” He nods looking around “What about you? How comes you’re here?” He shrugs “Don’t have a class right now, but since I saw you, here” He takes his bag off his back “Your boyfriend didn’t show up to period 1 so here is his missed work” He walks up to me quickly and I look at the sheets he pulls out his bag “Boyfriend?” My eyebrows narrow “So it is true you guys did break up?” “Who?” I ask not registering properly 

“Win-“ “Oh” My eyes widen “Oh no, no, it’s not like that, just a bit complicated” I quickly cover up “Right....Maybe that’s why he didn’t show up, he lost the best thing he had already” I blush looking away “We didn’t break up Cole” I finally look up at him and he frowns “Shame” He shrugs “What do you mean shame?” A small smile appears on my face amused “Nothing, keep working hard” He pats down my head “We should hang one time?” His eyebrows raise suggestively and I nod “Yeah that'd be cool”

"Cool" He sighs relived “Also, Wintyr tells me you’re gonna be at the game this Saturday, you'll cheer me on, right?” My smile grows ‘My dreams are coming trueeeee’ “I’m not really a cheerleader but I will try” “Yeah?” He asks “I will” His smiles grows a little too “Okay I’m being distracting, work hard little one, bye” He waves and I wave back feeling warm inside “Bye” I mouth when he looks back then leaves 

‘Oh my gosh I had a conversation with Cole without stuttering, score’ I high five myself proudly then notice the paper in my other hand ‘wait is Wintyr really off school today or is he just late?’ I tap my phone to see if I had any notifications from him but nothing 

‘Did he really not come cause of our little fight? Gosh so childish, he is, now everyone thinks it’s really a big deal’ I cross my arms but them remember he said he was feeling sick yesterday ‘Omg what if he really is sick??!”

I quickly check to see if any free lessons and see I had a free period 6, so as the day goes on, I patiently wait to leave but luckily period 5 got cancelled too so I use that time to find Summyr to ask for their address 

“Why?” She pulls her books closer to her chest “Wintyr didn’t come to school” She awes coving her mouth making me groan internally ‘Grosssss!’ “That's so cute! You look so worried awww" I clear my throat which she seems to notice so she just stops and puts her hand on my shoulder "He was a bit down but I’m sure his girlfriend will cheer him up” I cover up my gag and nod trying to agree even though I know my smile wasn’t as convincing “Just texted it to you” “Thank you” I sigh happily and book an Uber straight to the address Summyr had sent me

“Oh Gabriella, hello” Mrs Kim winks at me and I smile “Good afternoon Mrs Kim” She looks behind me then back to me “Are you not in school anymore?” “No I am, just finished early today, is Wintyr at home?” I look behind her then back to her “Wintyr? No he should be in school?” She tilts her head confused “Was he not in school today?” She asks concerned but I quickly wave my hands “No I just didn’t see him today” 

“Hm that’s weird he left pretty late but I didn’t see him when he was leaving, I was preoccupied with my husband” I look back and see his car wasn’t here either “Did you get worried and come here?” She asks almost as excited as Summyr ‘These poor people are always happy for us, I guess only Mr Kim knows the truth then'

“Ah no he has work-, no I mean I left my thing- some things? in his room” “Your thing-s?” She squints and I try to think quickly “My necklace” I click my fingers “And phone charger” She looks at me for a while then oh’s 

“Well then come in,” “Thank you” “You know where his room is right?” “This house is massive but I’m sure I’ll find the way” I say making her chuckle “Tell me if you want to eat anything” She walks the other way as I run up the stairs 

“Wintyr?” I whisper knocking on his room door “It’s Gabriella” I look behind me as I was scared a maid or something was gonna jump out at me, it was way too quiet in this house “Wintyr?” I turn the doorknob and open it slowly “I’m here to give you your school work, you better not be sick” I look around to an empty cold room “Messy boy” I shake my head looking at his bed “Oh boy” I drop my bag beside the door and take his work out 

“Where can you be?” I ask myself putting his work on his desk then going to fix his bed “I don’t even want to know” I close my eyes pretending not to see the c****m that was in my hands, it was still wrapped but the sight was disturbing “I’ll put you in here” I open his bedside table but what was inside caused an even bigger reaction from me 

“This i***t” I touch the almost empty cigarette packet and lighter, then look to the side and see some expensive watches “Your dad will kill you Wintyr” I get angry again at how careless he was then decide to hide the pack under all his stuff “Imagine Natalia saw this, she would kill her son, really” I also tuck the c****m away and stand up dusting my hands

As I stand up I notice his basket ball was also missing from under his desk which was normally the thing I kicked about “Bingo” I pick up my bag and run down the stairs meeting Mrs Kim at the bottom “Are you off so soon, you should wait for him to be back” She looks at her watch 

“No-“ “Please I insist, I’m cooking for you also” I bite my lip feeling bad “Okay, I’ll be back Mrs Kim” She takes my school bag from me bag with a devient smile “I’ll take this, so you really have to come back” I smile at her holding my pinky out “I promise Mrs Kim, here” I hand it to her “Don’t be too long Gabby” She bids me farewell and I run out the door 

‘Why am I running?’ I stop in the middle of the driveway then walk down the hill of the compound ‘wait I did see a basket ball court not far form here in the uber’ I run to the court that was 10 minutes away but that required a lot of stopping and starting 

“Okay I’m really going to die” I say out of breath leaning on the fence “Woah” I catch myself before I faint then finally look up “There” I breathe out “He” Again “Is” again “You are so dead Kim Wintyr” I try to walk but bang into the fence causing the boys near me to look back “Fudge” I suck in air when I finally see the man himself in his sweaty form, turn his head to see where everyone was looking 

“Gabby?” I must be really dreaming cause did he just call me by my nickname for once “No it’s a dream” I tell myself looking down still catching my breath “Gabriella!” I hear Wintyr shout worriedly, I mean it did look like I was about to pass out but I’m just really just unfit 

“Are you okay?” His arms come around me lifting me up “You got got here to fast” I breathe out punching my chest to get more air “I’m fine really” He brings me to his chest to let put me breath on “You’re so dead Wintyr” He chuckles at my empty threat “Okay, now tell me what you’re doing here then?” I lift myself pushing him away slightly “You didn’t come to school you i***t! What’s your dad gonna say?” He rolls his eyes “Lets make a rule to not talk about him getting mad again”

“Oh my gosh” I notice the boys still watching us but I knew it was because I looked like a ghost “I look so bad hide me” I push Wintyr in front of me squealing “Jeez calm down you're acting like you know them” I scowl “Shut it Wintyr” I command and he actually listens “Nope” Well I thought

 “Gabriella?” I hear him say and I look away shocked realising I had came here to find him ‘I look like a mess, at least I know hes fine I should just go’ “okay bye” I go to run back but he catches me back 

"Nope" He drags me back “Nooo” I go to move around but an arm stops me “What are you doing here Gabriella?” I face my back to him quickly  “Oh my god your topless” I cover my eyes and he chuckles “I have been for the past 10 minutes cupcake” I give him a dirty look not wanting to look down “I’ll go put on a shirt if I make you that flustered but you better not run again” He warns me and I do debate whether to run or not but know that I would have to see him at his house again as his mother already trapped me "Yeah yeah just hurry" I wave my hand for him to leave
