MIKA Channing stays silent for a few seconds, and I brace myself for any kind of reaction. But then he simply says, "Okay." before continuing. “I’ll go with you.” I appreciate it, but I prefer to do it alone, especially given how agitated he becomes at the mention of Wade. I say that to him, leaving out the last part, but I barely finish before he speaks. "Then I will wait in the car, but I am going with you," he says, and I say okay before bringing up the dinner with my parents, curious about what he and my father were talking about while we were packing, remembering how he doubled over laughing at one point. He tells me, and we soon start laughing again as he recounts my father's crazy stories. My father likes to joke around and he won’t even tell someone he was joking at times. •
