Mark hadn’t said a word since we entered the lawyer’s office. His whole body was tense, his fists clenched at his sides like he was holding back from punching something—or someone. I stood next to him, watching as the officer led us inside. The room was plain, just a desk, a few chairs, and a single woman standing near the window.
