The walls of my cell felt like they were closing in.
I had spent my life fighting to be on top, to never be trapped, never be at anyone’s mercy. Yet here I was, locked up like some caged animal, waiting for a stupid system I didn’t trust to decide my fate.
Sage was the only thing keeping me sane.
She visited every day, bringing whatever updates Alice gave her. I didn’t give a damn about Alice’s updates, but Sage’s presence? That was the only thing that mattered. She was my only tie to the outside world, the only person I could be soft with.
Alice, on the other hand, I wanted nothing to do with. She had faked her death, disappeared without a trace and now she was back, standing in front of me like nothing had happened, expecting me to just let it go.
Like hell I would.
