Hoarfrost and Wildfire

Thunk. Thunk. I heaved my hoe over my head and thrust it into the hard earth, tending to the barren fields that were once lush and vibrant. I did my best to prepare the soil for the spring crop. Thunk. Thunk. I wiped the sweat dripping from my brow and continued my back breaking labor. A slight breeze blew through the valley and with it came the words of The Mother, 'soon' she whispered.
