As I lay there on the lounger by the pool, I realized it was something I hadn't done enough in my life. I had always been so busy that I had forgotten to take time out and just watch. The whole point of having children, of having a family, was to see them and really actually see them. That was a lesson I learnt so late in life. I had been spending so much time trying to provide them with the best, guide them in the right ways and keep them out of trouble, that I didn't realise that I barely knew my own children. That will all change with the next generation. The house had once been full of noise and family and, for a while there, it had been deafeningly quiet. It was the complete opposite as I lay there.
