I watched on as the paramedics settled him in the ambulance. There was nothing I could do to be of use. Not for him anyway. I turned back to Aurora, it had hit her much harder than I had expected. If anything, her being so out of sorts had helped me get through it all, not that there wasn't more to face still. It was my mother's instinct that kicked in, nothing else. My need to protect and shield my baby girl from the damage and harm that was coming her way.
