Memory lane
Louisa Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! "Urghh... s**t!" "I can't believe I'm late today of all days" I hurriedly searched for my buzzing phone that's buried under the pile of papers, journals and whatnots on my bed. I pulled it out to find a call from my bestfriend s***h coworker. "Halo Emma..." I say tentatively "Lou!! You're late! The boss will be here any moment, you have to get here fast!" She whisper screamed into my ears "I know! I know!... I could swear I set an alarm yesternight...Ahhh!" "Hey, is everything okay over there?!" "Yeah,Yeah I'm fine. Just stomped my toe... I promise I'll be there soon." "I'll cover for you, just be quick okay?" Emma hangs up. I flunged my phone and necessary items into my pursed as I rushed into the bathroom to get ready. Don't blame me for being such a mess this morning. I've had a terrible night, I swear! It all started on the weekend when I woke up with a terrible headache, clogged head and serious mood swings. Ms Elodie, the cheery old lady who lives across the street says I'm coming down with the flu or something. She made me promise vehemently to visit the hospital, which I told her that I'd go once I've finished from work today. For now though, I have to get to work as soon as possible. With bare minutes to spare, I rushed out of the metro only to bump headfirst into someone's very solid chest. As I didn't even have time to react to his apologies, I returned a very hasty sorry his way before heading in the direction of the publishing house. "Lou! Over here" Emma hollered. "Hi, What's with the gloomy atmosphere...did something happen? Is She here already?" I rattle off as soon as Emma pulls me into her office space for gossip. "Relax, She's speaking with some executives. Meeting's in ten." She says "What wrong now, why would she want to see us" "What do you think? She always has something to complain about every time she's around " "Arghh... can't be good" "I mean she's never at work and shows up anytime acting like She's the boss of us" "Well, technically she is..." "Nonsense!! Ma'am Claude is! She only acts like she is because her mommy leaves her to act on her behalf when she's busy" Emma quips. "I swear if Her mom isn't so nice, I would have sent my resignation letter to the little witch's home address" "Emms..." I say tentatively. "She treats you way worse than every one else here because her mom and brother likes and trusts you, I don't know why you always side with her" "You know how things are, She's always like that with me since I joined the publishing house and Etiene is not making it easy. " "What can I say? the boy is interested in you doesn't mean she can step all over you out of spite" "Whatever, let's hurry okay? Don't want to get on her bad side, today has been stressful enough. " "Mon Dieu! And it's still morning yet" She says with an amusing smile on her features. The morning meeting was agonising! Marie, the Boss's daughter was a pain in my foot. I mean, She's always found reasons to make things difficult for me at work and today wasn't any better. Now she has tasked me with the extra responsibility of finding something unique and attractive to improve sales and audience for La Vie; one of our publishing house most exclusive magazine line. She normally would give this task to senior editor Antione; a narcissistic and rude superior who only cares about himself, I bet she just can't pass up the opportunity to see screw up on something so important. I like a good challenge though and I am most certain she won't get the satisfaction hehe... Lunch break gave me the perfect serenity to roam about in my thoughts. On one hand was the impeding deadline to find something catchy for La Vie and make it work, on the other hand is the issue that I've always swept under the rug as I'm too afraid to face it. The month's rent is coming to an end soon, I'm barely getting by in this big city and I am on the verge of packing up and moving back with my parents in Etretat to save cost and figure out a way to save their crumbling restaurant. It's exhausting to have to give up my dreams before it's even started, going back to the life I've most desperately tried to run away from and I can't bring myself to admit to myself that maybe, just maybe I might be wrong in seeking a different life for myself. I know my parents don't say it but I've always felt that they don't believe things will look up for me in the city and they are waiting for the day I come back home to help with the restaurant and never leave Etretat again, just like it was for them. I understand it's very hard to believe in someone's dreams especially when you are unsure about yourself too, take it from me mostly because I've hurt someone very special to me and I have always regretted it ever since. "Halo!! Earth to Lou, Are you alright? I've been talking nonstop and you haven't said a word in response " " Is everything okay Lou, please talk to me... Is it about the meeting earlier, I swear I'm going to give Marie a piece of my mind. That rat!! " " Non !! I'm fine, you know the usual... Dad called." " Ohh... my poor girl, you know we will figure this out" " Come stay with me then the extra money can go over to Mark and Cheyenne with what they need, you can't leave... who will they look up to for support, what do I do about you not being here too " " I don't know...Emms" "We'll figure something out" She reassured
