SELENE'S POV. The few days I spent after the mating ceremony have been one hell of a kind. But I was hoping that someday, I would be acknowledged by Alpha Dam, as his Luna to love and cherish me. I approached Alpha’s chamber door. The air was filled with tension as I got closer. Muffled voices reached my ears. Instinctively, I paused as I recognized Alpha Dam’s voice with his father's deep timbered voice. Their voices echoed through the door. “Father, I can't keep pretending that Selene is my true Luna. I want to make Erica my Luna before the moon and pack members.” Alpha Dam’s deep voice resonated with frustration. His father, Alex, an imposing figure who held the weight of the Lycan crown, responded with a deep resonant tone, “Dam, you can't let your emotions cloud your judgment. The merging of our packs was a strategic move to strengthen us to be the most powerful pack that ever existed over time.” He said, I pressed my ear closely to get every bit of the conversation. “Selene is a crucial part of merging the Silver Creek packs with ours and you cannot disregard that.” The Lycan king’s stern reply cut through the night. I had always known that my father’s decision to betroth me to Dam was not just a familial arrangement but a strategic move for the survival of our pack. I strained to hear their words, my ears in tune with every shade of their conversation as I hid behind the door. Alpha Dam’s frustration spilled into his words, “But father, I want to make Erica my Luna. She has been by my side supporting me in all aspects.” His Father’s voice grew stronger, “This is not about your personal feelings, Dam. It is about the survival and prosperity of our pack. You need to solidify your power as Alpha for both packs first.” I gasped silently at the revelation. A sense of helplessness washed over me, so what Erica said to my face was true and I felt she was only enveloped with jealousy. Alpha Dam’s frustration turned into desperation. “Father, I understand the plan, but I can't keep living in pretense, it's tearing me apart." The Lycan king’s eyes gleamed with a mixture of authority, “You are the Alpha now, Dam. Your duty should surpass personal desires,” he said. “We can't go through what we did to plan the rogue attack that took the life of Selene’s father to enable us to take over Silver Creek and you will want to ruin this for yourself and myself by being the lycan king.” I felt a shiver down my spine, realizing the gravity of the situation. “Son, if you must achieve great things, you have to sacrifice. You must endure for the greater good and in this case, having Selene as your Luna is essential to that.” My hands trembled as I clutched the foliage, grappling with a mixture of confusion and pain. I struggled to process the magnitude of their conversation. My heart aches, caught in the crossfire of their conflicting desires to think that the rogue attack was all planned out to take my parent's life. Dam’s frustration escalated, his voice rising. “Father, you don't understand. I will fulfil my duties as Alpha, but I won't let this charade continue for long. I need to make Erica my Luna." The Lycan King’s expression softened, and he placed a firm hand on Dam’s shoulder. “You have the strength of a true Alpha, my son. Selene is the daughter of the late Alpha of the Silver Creek pack and your mating with her will bring prosperity and strength to both our bloodlines." He cautioned. “After some moons later, once you solidify your power, you can choose Erica as your Luna before the packs. Endure for a little longer and all will be as it should," he spoke as he looked at his son's facial expression. "But for now, you must prioritize the unity of our packs. Trust in the part we’ve chosen for the sake of the packs.” He continued. I felt a sudden urge to leave, to escape the uncertainty that threatened to consume me. But I felt an invisible force seize me. Panic surged through me as I realized Alpha Dam had detected me eavesdropping as he caught the scent of my presence. The raw power of his Alpha abilities wrapped me up, making me fixed to the spot and I was trapped in the shadows. Dam’s gaze pierced through the room, locking onto me. “Selene,” he said, his voice cutting through the night like a blade as he walked towards the door. “You shouldn't have eavesdropped. It's disrespectful, you pathetic omega!” He growled. “But now that you know, understand that this is the path we must tread for the sake of our packs,” he added. Tears streaked down my face as I struggled against the invisible force that held me captive. I felt a sense of betrayal that took over me. I wanted to scream, to express the turmoil within me, but my voice remained trapped. “Take her to one of the secret rooms, I will get the pack's doctor to always check her up until my position as the Alpha solidifies in both packs,” Dam commanded one of the pack enforcers, who stood right in the room while everything was displayed. “Yes, my Alpha.” The enforcer replied. The enforcer headed in my direction, carried me and took me to the dimly lit secret room. I struggled against the overwhelming power but all my efforts to do that were futile. I lay numbed on the bed, I was kinda unconscious of my environment, unable to move or speak but I could think. I felt a mix of emotions and how to escape. The situation at the moment seemed uncertain, but I understood that the fate of our pack rested on the shoulders of an Alpha torn between duty and personal desires. The level of the betrayal from Alpha Dam and his father; the Lycan’s king, pressed down on me, threatening to crush my spirit. I longed for the day the moon goddess would make my powers manifest, so the packs would no longer be entangled in this web of secrecy and strategic hierarchy.
