“Why'd you do it?” Todd was startled to hear someone talking to him. He turned around to find Patterson standing there.
“Do what?”
“You know this building's reputation as well as I do. Everybody does. Nothing but the dregs of the earth. Junkies and dealers. Why did you bother risking your life for hers?”
Todd wanted to punch him. The cop's statement made him realize he didn't care if there were any people inside. Maybe he lied about having the building checked beforehand. Hell, maybe he hoped those things would have helped to get rid of a few of them.
