Chapter 1- Wedding and the Rain
- Some people are so bad that the weather also turns bad on their relative's wedding...
Seeing the dark clouds, the thunder and the lightning this is what I felt. Sorry, I can't speak any better about the person whose sister's wedding I am suppose to attend. I have rightly termed her as my 'greatest enemy', the reason for all my misfortune and though it is a great day for reconciliation with my grandfather by attending her wedding, I can't bring myself to do it.
This is Lord Ethane Hewitt, 28, the eldest grandson of Lord George Hewitt, owner of the Lord Hewitt Companies. For the past seven years he has been a successful businessman, expanding his Grandpa's business, but five years back his personal life had turned upside down because of this very woman, Miss Elizabeth Baker. Along with his thoughts nature seems to play a friend. All the turmoil in his heart finds an expression in that fierce thunder and rain. Though unwilling, he still heads with his car to the wedding venue. While everything becomes foggy inside the car with only the wipers constantly wiping out the rain, he moves forward in that lonely highway.
I was deep in my thought about the incident that took place five years ago, where I hadn't done anything and yet my grand father held me responsible for all that had taken place. Lost deep in my thoughts, I didn't notice a big truck that had suddenly stopped before my car. Although I could have applied the brakes on time, I only slow my speed and crash into the truck. I am unharmed but my car is badly broken. But all this will help me in two ways. Firstly, I won't have to attend the wedding and secondly I will gain sympathy from my relatives for this accident.
By now the truck driver starts shouting at him. But in a very calm tone he says, "Your expenses will be covered by me". Ethane takes out some cash and hands it to the truck driver. The truck driver is very satisfied with the money as its much more than the damages that occured to his truck. He notices a bar nearby and parks his truck there and get inside. Ethane tries to start his car but as the engine doesnot start he gets out of the car, looks up at the falling sky, opens his arms to get soaked in the rain and trudge to the bar nearby with a small bag in his hand. By the time he reaches the bar, his tux is completely wet. He asks for a room, change into his track pants and t shirt and goes out to enjoy a drink.
The ambience of the bar was a good one. Some old men were playing a live band while on a big screen a news channel was covering the wedding of two young billionaires Miss. Cicilia Baker and Mr. Ian Thompson. The people are genuinely minding their own business while the truck driver is still grumbling over his damaged truck.
I am cool, gulping down some wine I now concentrate on those old musicians. The lead singer sings some old classics and I can't help but sway to the rhythm. When he gets down to have a drink I sit on his stool, take up his guitar and start singing, the other band members also accompany me. I am singing one of my favorite songs with my eyes closed, but when I open them I see a beautiful girl standing at the door. My playful eyes follow her. She is aware of my gaze and smiles shyly. We both nod while she sits on a tall chair and orders a drink.
In this not-so-happening bar, the presence of a girl does bring some freshness. Wearing a short dress and very little makeup she attracts a lot of attention.
