Primrose Smith's life growing up is miserable. Her adoptive parents and her sister made her life a living hell. Her only happiness is Aspen, her four-year-old son who's battling leukemia. The boy was conceived by a one-night stand with a stranger during spring break and she had no idea who he was or where to find him.

A series of misfortunes take place, Prim finds herself marrying Archibald Wright to save her son’s life. He’s a devilishly handsome man with a responsibility: to produce an heir. He had dangerous secrets that he guards with extreme caution and he's cunning. Her simple life takes a dangerous turn with him in the picture.

Tides turning
Prim’s POV: I am over the moon that I am finally home after a week of attending a conference in New York. I miss Eric. I miss Aspen. No one knew of my arrival. It’s meant to be a surprise. But sh*t happens. The door to our family home wasn’t locked, so I made my way in. With my luggage in my hand, I scuffled to my bedroom when I heard moans coming from Diana’s room. “Ha. I wonder who she brought home, and it's noon time. Unbelievable.” I mumbled, pushing through and minding my business, a hot shower in my mind. After all, Diana, my sister, does this a lot and our adoptive parents would care less. They are usually out of town or with friends. It doesn’t bother me at all. As long as Aspen doesn’t see her doing the deed, then all is fine. And then I heard a familiar voice. I can not be mistaken. To be sure, I stood there, glued and frozen. Waiting for that familiar husky male voice to talk again. Fear slowly gripped me from the inside. “Come on, Prim. What are you doing?” I chastised myself. “What you are thinking is crazy impossible…that cannot be…him.” “…baby, you drive me crazy. You are way better than your sister in bed!” “Eric, how can you compare me to her? You said so yourself, she’s as stiff as a tree bark whenever you f*ck her.” Impossible! I want to run away and confront Eric later, but what good can come out of that? Above all, what are the odds that the man inside my sister’s bedroom is named Eric too? There are a lot of Erics in Ohio alone. This calls for the benefit of the doubt, even if I am not sure who deserves it in this situation. To be sure, I fished my phone inside my purse and dialed my boyfriend’s number, who is named Eric as well. Damn, I prayed so hard that I wouldn't hear ringing inside Diana’s bedroom. Ring! Ring! Ring! Okay, that may be a coincidence. My hand held the phone harder in anticipation. As long as I don’t hear the man answer, it’s fine. It’s fine. Right? “Who’s calling you?” I heard Diana ask the man. “No one.” “Let me see, hmm, Prim is calling you. I thought you said she was busy at this hour with that boring conference?” Diana sounded annoyed. “She is.” The man replied. “Okay, I am turning my phone off. She could go to hell. I am focusing all my energy on you-” That was all I needed to hear. I bust the door using all the energy from the progressing rage I feel, and Eric jumps like a cat away from Diana while my b*tch of a sister does not even bother to cover her exposed breasts. Not a flinch. Not a sheer sign of remorse. She sat there, looking so smug and pleased that I saw what I saw. “Put some clothes on, Eric. I will wait for you in the living room.” I finally managed to croak, trying so hard not to barf and cry at once. “Prim, listen to me.” Eric quickly grabbed his pants and followed me outside. “I can explain.” “Hey, you don’t have to explain anything to her, Eric baby. She saw us together. Only stupid people will not get what that means.” Diana stated, as if she did nothing offensive to me. Grabbing her robe. I wish it was all a dream. A bad dream, but it won’t go away. I blinked once, twice, thrice, followed by many more in hopes that the horrible scene I saw would go away. My heart felt like it weighed more than it did, and I did not know that it was possible to feel a stabbing pain so real that I feared I might bleed to death. Of all the f*cking places to cheat on me. They chose to do it at home. I know that Diana hates me. Everyone in this family dislikes me, except Aspen. All these years of maltreatment, I never held a grudge against them. But Diana to do this to me? This is extra, even for her. My whole being was shaken to the core as I paced in the living area, waiting for Eric or for Diana, whoever came first to face my fury. Eric faced me first. “Prim, love. What you saw back there…it’s nothing…it’s a mistake…I swear.” “I can’t even look at you now, Eric. Right now, I am this close to breaking up with you!” He grabbed me by the arms and forced me to face him. I could see him almost in tears, but he was only sorry because he was caught. "Honey. I am sorry. I didn't mean to do it. I swear. I love you. I promise this is all a mistake. Give me one more chance!” “A mistake?” Diana bellowed from her bedroom door, tying her robes up. “What do you call this baby in my belly? We did it more than once, Eric. Surely, that wasn’t a mistake.” “Y-you’re pregnant?” I choked on the words and turned to face my now-going to-be ex-boyfriend, a decision in my head. Final. “That’s it, we are over!” “Yes. Eric is the father.” “I... I am?” Eric sputtered; I could tell he was confused as hell too. “Wait, what?” “B-but you are engaged! You’re supposed to be married next month!” I told her, as if she was not aware. Diana raised her chin high in defiance and touched her barely showing belly to emphasize her point. Then he smiled slyly. “Not anymore. No man would want to marry a woman who got knocked up by another man. Besides, I don’t want to marry someone I don’t even know.” At that exact moment, our adoptive parents arrived and heard her admission. Nora and Will have worked so hard on the preparations for the wedding. They arranged for her to marry a friend’s illegitimate son. “What’s going on here?” Nora inquired. I decided to speak up. After all, I am the aggravated party here. “I caught Eric and Diana cheating on me!” “Diana, is this true?” William asked her calmly. “Yes, but he is also the father of my baby!” Nora shrieked. Will started to lament how much trouble they’d get into if the marriage didn’t push through. Making me aware of how they managed to disregard my issues and focus on theirs. “Will, the Rothschild’s won’t be happy. What are we going to do?” “I don’t know! It would be easy if Diana is not pregnant!” “How far along are you?” Nora asked her favorite daughter. She likes Diana more. It’s not a subject of discussion. “Two months. Give or take a few.” “F*ck it. They will know it’s not his.” Will sat on the couch and was in despair. “Oh, my God, Diana. What happened to ‘wear condoms’ and all those safe s*x adverts?” I will no longer have them dismiss my feelings and the hurt I am harboring invalid. They’ve been doing this all my life! I work hard and help with the family expenses even if I have Aspen to think about. While Diana? She’s a glorified freeloader with no care in the world because everything is handed to her by our parents. They’ve crossed the line one too many times and I let them. This time, it will be different. Filling my lungs with air, I yelled at them for the first time. “Excuse me, you're forgetting Diana and Eric cheated on me. She’s obviously doing this because she doesn’t want to be married. Hello?! I am here! I have issues too!” I wish I had never pointed out that. Because Nora managed to devise a plan within a split second. “Yes, you! Oh, my God! Will! How can we not see her? Eric, be a darling and leave us.” Nora hugged me, which she never does. She waited until Eric was gone. I figured he went home. “You. You will take Diana’s place and marry the Rothschild bastard boy!” “What?” I pushed her away. “Are you hearing yourself?" “What, that’s a perfect idea.” “In what way is marrying Diana’s fiancé perfect? All I want is for you to acknowledge the fact that she and Eric cheated on me and this is what I get? I get to take her place because she’s pregnant?” “Well, do you still want to take Eric back after all this?” Will queried. “Because if I were you…” Nora interrupts, “Prim, how much do you need for Aspen’s medical treatment?” “I don’t see why it matters.” “Just answer me. Give me numbers.” She insisted. “Around three hundred thousand dollars.” “What if I tell you, we could arrange that?” Nora suggested. Once again, my parents proved to me that I was never going to get the same treatment as Diana. They saw my desperate need for funds for Aspen’s treatment as a solution to their dilemma. To do that, I have to agree to marry a man I have never met. I already feel sorry for him.
