Chapter 31I heard the whispering first. It was like several people whispering something in the hall outside. I eased up out of my chair. Daryl looked up at me.
“What's wrong?”
I nodded at the entryway. “Something is coming.”
White gloves appeared at the edge of the entryway, gripping the edge tightly. Then a point appeared and moved quickly into view. It was a long conical hat, wrapped in layers of gauze. A head appeared but the eyes were covered by bloody bandages. The woman's mouth opened, revealing double rows of sharp teeth.
“Hell!” Daryl rasped. He stumbled out of his chair and moved around to the end where I stood.
