Chapter 12I carried my food over to Daryl's table. He gave me a small sad smile. “How're you doing?” I sat down, settling my bag at my feet. “I've had better days.” “I'll bet.” He had a half-eaten cheeseburger and fries on his tray. It looked good. I couldn't believe that I was actually hungry but my stomach growled, demanding food. I fed it a couple crisp fries. “How about you?” I asked. “Are you doing okay?” Daryl shrugged. “It's hard to believe he's gone, you know? I kept looking for him today without even realizing I was doing it. Like I wanted to tell him about the guy that had died, and then I'd realize that it was him and not some random guy.
