Chapter 9Pam and I were safe, for the moment, but still in the nightmare. The blackened remains of my post-apocalyptic dorm room surrounded us. Black ashes stained my hands and my throat felt scratchy. As nightmares went this one certainly felt incredibly real. Most lucid dreams seemed real, but this was somehow even more like regular reality. I just didn't believe that the whole world had been destroyed while Pam and I took a nap. I watched Pam running her fingers along the bars outside the shattered windows. They were made of some dark, heavy metal, but they looked scared and partially melted with thick drops frozen on their sides.
