Lily is anxiously bouncing her leg as she sits outside in the night air. Her table has a beautiful floral place setting with a small handmade placard that says "Tomorrow we do" in calligraphy. Soft music fills the air and fairy lights twinkle in the evening breeze. Nothing would make her happier than to throw the flowers at the beautiful couple in the center of the room. Not only is she having to endure the celebration of love that she can never have. She has to endure it with the man she can never have it with. Worse still, her libido is riding her hard. The orgasms Trent gave her earlier were not enough and she still feels flushed and needy.
"Ugh I really want to throw something!" Lily screams in her head.
She can see Trent smirking out of the corner of her eye. She knows that with his damn shifter senses he can smell her arousal. Him being so close, smelling so good is not helping either.
Currently members of the wedding party are roasting the groom as the mic gets passed from guest to guest. Everyone is laughing and having a good time. The beer garden next to the hotel is the perfect venue. She really should be having a good time. Everyone has been really nice since she arrived. Brian, the groom, recognized her right away and immediately thanked her for having mercy on his poor lonely friend. The bride to be was a lovely petite woman with fiery red hair named Shannon. Lily can see the love the couple has for each other and their smiles start a dull throb in her chest.
Trent places his hand gently on Lily's thigh. He can sense her anxiety rising. She grabs his bicep and lays her head on his shoulder. Ever since they arrived Lily has been a little melancholy and he wonders if she regrets what happened between them. She has been smiling and laughing along with his friends but her mirth hasn't quite reached her eyes. He shouldn't have been so forceful with her. What the f**k was he thinking? Chasing her down the hallway and dragging her back to his cave like a barbarian? This woman was driving him crazy and making him lose all his senses. He needed to tell her soon. Explain to her what he was. What she was to him. Why she was acting the way she was. Hell, why he was acting a fool. It was so much. So fast.
Trent glanced down at his shoulder. At the woman who was clinging to him. His Lily. So soft and warm. Soft brown curls cascading over her shoulders to her mid-back. She had already sweated off most of her make-up so he could see the freckles on her nose, making her look so vulnerable, so kissable. Her luminous green eyes were bright with unshed tears. He was shocked when one escaped and slid down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away, but he had already seen.
"Lily what's wrong?" Trent whispers. Lily was startled by the question. She didn't think he was paying her any attention.
"Nothing. I'm just thinking about what a beautiful couple they are and I'm really happy for them. This kind of stuff always gets to me. I'm such a sap."
Trent smiled at this and gave Lily's thigh a slight squeeze. She was relieved he couldn't sense the lie. At least her sad thoughts had cooled her ardor somewhat. Her head was clearer now than it had been all afternoon.
"What am I doing?" Lily thought. "How am I going to give this up?"
The festivities were winding down and guests were enjoying their food and beer.
"Want to mingle a little?" Trent asked tentatively.
"Sure. Give me a minute to get my head together. I'll find you."
Lily smiled up at Trent. He was reluctant to leave her on her own, but he understood that she might need some time alone. He had been dragging her around the city all afternoon. He went to talk to Brian and Shannon.
Lily closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"You can do this. It's what you wanted. Just one more day," she thought.
When she opened her eyes she was surprised to see a woman at her table. A really beautiful woman with jet black hair cut in a shoulder length bob. Almond shaped eyes with a bow mouth and perfect alabaster skin. She was wearing a black lace dress which hugged every curve. The contrast between the dress and her skin was stunning.
"How do you know Trent?" she asked. The question was cold and abrupt. Slightly accusatory.
Lily's brow furrowed. She felt like she was being attacked. The woman's stare was intense and searching. Something was wrong.
"We're dating." She answered vaguely.
Was this an old girlfriend? His f**k buddy? She could have sworn his friend said that Trent hadn't been with anyone for a while.
"No. You're not. I would have met you." The woman continued to stare at Lily. The stare was one of confusion. Not anger, like you would expect from a jealous lover.
"You're going to leave. Trent is not for you." The woman stated flatly. Somehow those words were liquid. They flowed over Lily and made her feel heavy. She swooned for a quick second. Just as quickly the feeling left. Leaving a prickling sensation in its wake across her arms, chest and shoulders. The woman's eyes widened in surprise but she continued to stare.
"Who are you?" Lily sputtered, backing up from the table and standing shakily to her feet. Something was very wrong and Lily suddenly felt naked. Exposed.
"Marin! I thought that was you!" Trent bellowed. He walked up and gave the woman a bear hug and light kiss on the cheek.
"I see you've met Lily." He exclaimed. Marin had yet to take her eyes from Lily who was now wrapped in Trent's arms looking at the ground.
"Yes. Of course I came." She laughed.
"Lily this is Marin. She is a fellow developer that has worked with Brian and I on a few projects recently."
Now that Marin wasn't staring at her, Lily felt like she could breathe. Brian came over to their group to greet Marin. Lily stepped behind Trent slightly and tried to calm her breaths. Brian and Trent were talking and laughing with Marin. Nothing had changed for them. Their hearts weren't thundering in fear.
Trent held tightly to Lily's hand. He could sense her anxiety all night but now he could smell her fear. His protective instincts went on alert.
"Marin. It was great to see you. But I've got to go get some rest before tomorrow." Trent explained. He and Lily gave hugs to Brian and to Shannon who had just wandered over.
"No Trent. You want to stay." Marin stated. Her tone flat once again. Trent felt warmth in the hand that Lily held and it traveled up his arm. He heard Marin's voice like he was under water.
"No we really can't. We'll see you guys tomorrow at the big show." Giving his warmest smile, Trent pulled Lily along with him. Suddenly anxious himself. Trent moved through the lobby of the hotel. Only stopping when he felt a tug on his arm.
"Lily what's wrong?" Trent’s anxiety had lessened the further he got from the beer garden. Now he couldn’t remember why he had left.
"I need to get back to my sisters. I'm sure they're wondering about me." Lily felt lighter too. But still wary.
"We need to talk Lily. A lot happened today. It can't end like this." Trent reached out for Lily and held her face in his hands. Her eyes were sad. They had lost their shine.
"Trent. I'm really tired. Can I promise you a breakfast date?" Lily was tired but she was also aching for him. Her weird encounter with Marin was the least of her worries right now. She couldn't trust herself to be around him tonight. She needed to wait until tomorrow when she was properly prepared.
"Lily. Are you sure you have to go? We can have breakfast when we wake up together in the morning." Trent rasped huskily. He placed his hand around her waist and pulled her flush against his chest. Their breath mingled while Trent looked into her eyes.
Lily stared at Trent's lips. She would give anything to go back to his room and be lost in his arms. However, there were plans to make. Spells to be wrought. Her heart clenched. It wasn't fair.
"I need to get back. Text me if you want breakfast. Don't make that face. I'll see you soon." Lily had to laugh at the face Trent made. Like a toddler who was put in time out. She stood on tiptoes and brought her hands around his neck.
Lily pulled him down and kissed him. It was meant to be a brief kiss. But the taste of him set her blood on fire. The heat and flush came back with a vengeance. Trent dragged her to a hallway by the elevator and pushed her up against the wall.
Their lips met again and Lily craved the feeling of Trent's skin. The taste of his flesh. She began licking and sucking the skin along his collar bone. Unable to get higher. Wrapping her leg around his waist and using the wall for leverage, Lily climbed up his big body. She began sucking and nipping at his neck. Not caring if she bruised him. The nips became harder as her desperation increased. She didn't even notice that Trent had gone still except for the gasping breaths that caused his chest to heave.
"Lily don't!" Trent wheezed.
Shivering and gasping Lily made her way back to the ground. Trent wouldn't meet her gaze as he pushed the button for the elevator. When the doors opened. Trent pushed her inside.
"I'll see you in the morning." He said with a tight voice.
With a shocked expression Lily watched him as the door closed. Following with her body until it was shut. She collapsed to the ground with her head in her hands. Her pulse pounding between her legs and the taste of Trent in her mouth.
"What the f**k is wrong with me?" Lily whispers. Pressing her palms into her eyes.
Trent is in the lobby. Facing the elevators. One hand braced against the wall, the other on the side of his neck. Wondering if his Lily broke skin. Willing his d**k to go down so that he can walk back to his room. He takes a few more deep breaths and then walks off.
"I'm taking the stairs."
Marin frowns in concentration. Trying to process what she just saw from her alcove.
"That girl. Who is she? So lovely. Delicious even. What connection could she have to an alpha wolf? Strong enough to break my hold. Interesting." Marin stalked off into the night. She had phone calls to make.
